Fertilizer shortage: We need to be creative. There may not be enough for commercial growers but there's still large bags for home gardeners at feed stores and any store that sells garden supplies. YouTube gardeners show different ways to make homemade fertilizer and compost tea. Example: Bury wood ashes, coffee grounds, egg shells, veg & fruit scraps all over in your garden to draw worms. Worms make fertilizer for you. Chop and drop leaves, twigs and weeds in layers as mulch to slowly break down and imitate the floor of a forest. I grew lots of fruitful papaya trees in Florida this way. Buy books about composting. Learn how to make Fertilizer and start a business in your area.
My son's place had apples and pears on it that he wasn't using so he let me can some of them. He and my husband also went deer hunting. Right now, meat and vegetables are down in price here at the store so I stocked up with what I could. All my canning jars are full as are my freezers. We have wood for heating piled up as well. e had our first snow storm of 3 inches this year the other day. Unusual for here as we never get snow this early. Our personal biggest issues right now are that our vehicles are old and in need of repair. My husband is working on one right now with a friend of his.
I believe that the problems we are facing have something to do with the huge droughts and floods that are occurring everywhere in the world right now. Animal feed has more than doubled in price since I came here in 2020 and it has everything to do with the weather on the plains. The biggest rivers in many parts of the world have super low water levels. Spain had a reservoir so low that it had to shut down one of it's hydroelectric plants.
You should look into making your own vinegars. It's so easy and you can make all different kinds as well. You could probably make basil vinegar with those basil flowers, sugar & water. I make my own vinegar all the time. Took my pineapple core scraps, water and sugar today to start it. Hope you try it. It's very cost effective
