Building new stone garden path

So it’s been a bit of stretch since I’ve put up a video, and this project is the reason why. My apologies for not filming the actual construction of this project, but I swear it was mostly us standing around arguing about math, and neither of us is particularly good at math. This video will hopefully get you up to date and give you enough info on how we did it so you can take on a project like this yourself.

My name is Erin and I love sharing inspiration and information with real-life gardeners. I live and garden in southeastern Wisconsin, zone 5b.

  1. The new stones are a massive improvement and make the path look much more trustworthy. Wood chip is a fab option for filling in too. It will break down and sink a bit, but if you wanted to, you could just keep topping it up. Great project, Erin.

  2. Laura at Garden Answer uses gravel a lot and I think she says to use the chipped(?) style. She says because it has flat sides, it’s easier to walk on. She recently put gravel around her greenhouse and was talking about it.

  3. Glad you enjoyed the botanic garden in Boothbay! I’m a member and have watched it grow since it’s birth. Must come back sometime during the holiday season, the light display is spectacular !

  4. That is going to look amazing (and be so much more functional) when it's done! It will be well worth the literal sweat equity 😊

  5. I think that is going to be just perfect. I'm sure it was a lot of hard work and now that its done it will be so nice in the spring because most of the hard work is finished. Good job to you both. Wishing you a very Happy Thanksgiving!

  6. I have several places on our property we have been trying to incorporate steps and such (years after gardens were placed 😄) I, like you, started noticing how visitors and grandchildren would avoid certain paths (or make new ones 😆) I really don't have any new ideas to offer , but I must say it looks really good , and I definitely see your vision and actually has given me some ideas !!! I look forward to seeing how it turns out .

  7. I do think some sort of gravel or stone will be you best bet to keep it clean and clear and classy as a path. The groundcover path does sound nice but it raises the question is that a path? can I walk through there? Unless maybe you do it with some different mosses that stay really low and tight to the ground but you would just want those like on the edges or at the seams of the stone steps.
