Japanese Garden

Inside a Minimalist Luxury Hotel of Japanese Aesthetics | The Thousand Kyoto

Project: The Thousand Kyoto ザサウザンドキョウト | Architect: Tohata Architects & Engineers 東畑建築事務所, Interior Designer: Takenaka Corporation

Located right next to JR Kyoto Station, this new luxury hotel was opened in 2019, with a design concept of “Comfort Minimalism”. The concept brings together “Story of Light”, “Story of Niwa (garden)” and “Story of Omotenashi (hospitality)”, based on the wisdom of Kyoto and Japanese aesthetics. The designers utilized a concept of “In Praise of Shadows”, in which light and shadow co-exist in harmony together with static picturesque scenes and dynamic movements that exist within. The garden chapel nestles in the warmth and soft glow of the surrounding woods and bamboo mini forest.
