26-Year-Old Starts a $96,000/Year Cleaning Business

Spencer Claeys turned a $500 investment into a $8,000 a month cleaning business startup, Northwest Pro Wash. Maybe most impressive, he gets tons of leads from spending just $150 a month on marketing. We’ll find out how he grew his cleaning business without a massive advertising budget in this interview.

Spencer started Northwest Pro Wash after college. He was tired of bad bosses and low pay, but loved working outside and interacting with people. This made a roof and gutter cleaning business an ideal fit for his skills.

In today’s interview, we’ll get Spencer’s advice on how to start a cleaning business from scratch without needing to spend a ton of money up front. We’ll find out what equipment and cleaning supplies he uses, how he attracts customers (and keeps them coming back as repeat business), and what skills are a must-have for a cleaning business owner.

While he doesn’t spend a lot on advertising, Spencer does have a large social media following, with 60,000 subscribers on YouTube and over 210,000 on TikTok. He’s also recently started a podcast to grow this online following even more. He’s been so successful at social media marketing that he’s done marketing consulting for other roofing businesses. Today, you’ll hear how he built a social media presence for his business and how he uses it to grow his revenue.

Anyone who wants to start a roof, gutter, or other outdoor cleaning business will learn a ton from Spencer! For more insights into the industry, check out some of our past interviews:

  2. Do you want more advice on how to start a cleaning business? Check out the free training video that’s part of the UpFlip Cleaning Business Course, where you’ll learn tricks to attract customers and grow sales from $0 to $10,000 a month in just 60 days. Find it here: https://bit.ly/cleaning-business-bootcamp

  3. He needs to double prices, get professional custom work attire, hire 2-3 guys at just above minimum wage, then spend 100% profit on marketing. He will either become a millionaire in 1-2 years or the market will tell him that nobody wants their roof cleaned. He should get a nice power washer also.

  4. Maybe he should get a leaf vacuum to clean out the gutters and not make a mess in the yard

  5. SPOILER ALERT: RO/DI is used for other reasons. NOT WHAT IS MENTIONED HERE AT ALL! Seems someone needs to explain this fella a thing or 2 about the reason why we use RO/DI to clean solar… lol

  6. Always look forward to these great videos. However, if possible, would love to see interviews on businesses outside of the cleaning, power wash, car detailing, and lawn care category. Keep up the great work.

  7. really enjoy these videos! I'm a small business owner myself, interesting seeing how other people start out and the tips being offered in different videos. Keep at it 👍

  8. What a smart guy! I wish I did something like that at his age instead of waiting until I was in my 30s
