WINTER IS HERE | Planting In The Winter



My Family are finally back home in Mongolia, they left me alone to prepare for this winter. This will be not just any winter but one of the coldest winters we will have to undertake together. This will be the first extreme winter on our homestead in Mongolia just outside the coldest capital city in the world and we have been preparing for winter. We have many thing to get done around the homestead before winter really hits hard, In the episode will finally get to plant our winter crop in our winter greenhouse and show you some tips and tricks on planting vegetables in the cold winter. We also introduce Monpellets as our organic fertiliser that is made from sheep wool. We have just finish construction of our geothermal greenhouse in Mongolia and still struggling to become self sufficient and self sustainable here.

    Everything looks great! What will your irrigation system be like? I see you have a large blue barrel. Probably manual watering for now?

    You could probably raise that barrel up near the ceiling of the greenhouse with a steel frame. Then attach a network of drip piping into the beds and let gravity do the watering??

    Added benefit of warmer air at the top to warm up the ice cold water you are getting from your well. That reminds me, how is your well doing as the temperatures drop? This coming week should be a good test.

    What is the noise level (in decibel) produced by the fans inside this greenhouse? Would you heat your house with the same geothermal heating system you used for your greenhouse?

    You may want to create a detailed document of your grow steps from start to finish just in case something does not go as planned you have notes to go back over.
