Join us, Daphne and Ian, as we embark on our new chateau renovation projects! This week, we have Francis’ son, Floreon, join us to inspect the tallest point of our chateau roofing. We visit a local nursery to purchase some Cypress trees for the garden, then cut back all of the overgrowth that has been hiding the newly discovered garden terrace and stone wall!

Our beau chateau (The 500-year-old, Chateau De Lesigny), is located near Paris, France. Most of the structures around the chateau domain need a full restoration, so we are investing everything we have into making the property thrive! We are learning more about french culture and developing new skills along the way!

As a French/American UC Berkeley graduate in Agriculture (Daphne), and a U.S. Air Force Tactical Response Force Veteran/ Kinesiologist (Ian), we share a love for challenges and adventure. We have a long road ahead of us and we are excited to share the experience with you!

You can support our renovation projects by joining our Patreon Community, where you can also gain access to exclusive videos and behind the scene access with Daphne and Ian! All patron funding is used to renovate this historical French Chateau. Every patron is paramount to our chateau renovations and we thank you all tremendously!

  1. Great work ! Save the pigeons" droppings" as natural fertilizer like guano.

  2. Ian is right! So cool! I love the idea of using the sticks and twigs from the clearing for wattle fencing for garden beds. Not so much for the formal garden, but if you set up a kitchen garden near the cottage you are living in, they would be totally appropriate. Excited about all the progress! โค๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Š

  3. Not sure about fairytale wedding suite. Your cat seems to have decided- Its a cat tree! Could be a fairytale cat tree ๐Ÿ˜‚

  4. Several of us here, who know French gardens, have suggested that you do not plant trees in that parterre garden. It's not meant for trees, and if you put trees in it, it won't be right. I'm having a panic attack now that you are looking at trees to put there. You have a large enough property, that if you want an orchard or trees planted, they can go in another location. There is a reason that there are no trees there now, after 200 years. It's because the trees were kept out. If you look at the drawings you found, you won't see trees in that garden, except potted ones. Please talk to a garden person from Versailles or one of the other chateaux nearby, and they can fill you in on what goes there. Or, I'd be happy to send you one of my garden books, if that would help. That rounded area with the wall you just cleared is called a demilune, and it's intrinsic to the garden design. It's so beautifully laid out, and could be the showpiece of the place, if handled properly. A parterre garden is dramatically good for photo shoots and movies, and would be an asset to your property, so please don't plant trees in it. You have a treasure there.

  5. Flame throwers are great for gravel driveways and Coblestone paths. I'm enjoying your vlog greatly. Thank for sharing….

  6. Your garden terrace and stone wall are amazing discoveries I can not wait to see the path ways and the trees planted just wonderful what you are doing with the Chateau.

  7. You could use the Wood Chips for the Wood-Chip Boiler.., isn't that what you use to heat the Chateau?

  8. Very great work on those trees guys. Ian is such a hard worker. It's wonderful to see such a loving happy couple. You two are sweet as you are pretty. You're my favorite couple on earth. T y for sharing. That place will be a lifetime of projects for you. I'm sure you're going to do it well.

  9. Love the pigeon tower! Beautiful terrace. I think you will like the flame thrower. It should make maintenance easier.

  10. Deeply enjoy your videos. Love the Dove House and Terrace. Thank you so much for sharing your remarkable journey with all of us.

  11. I think you can apply for a burn permit and as long as you follow their rules you should be able to at this time of year, less chance of the burn casing forest fire. ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

  12. Why not have a "buy a tree" program? I bet lots of folks would love to have their own tree in your garden or buy one in memory of someone else.

  13. Do you ever get upset at each other? You seem so easy going together! ๐Ÿ™‚ Well, nice discovery, more work on your plate but I can think of your chateau in a couple of small years and it will be awesome! Keep going on! i love watching you work in harmony and smiling! ๐ŸŒท๐ŸŒบ๐ŸŒธ

  14. I now have my entire family watching this channel and we love it, will tune into the series production you recommended cant have enough period pieces to watch.

  15. I really enjoy your videos! You certainly get a lot done and I love hearing about your future plans. Thank you!

  16. Those small apples are in England called Crab Apples, edible but not a desert fruit. Use to add flavour to other fruit dishes.
    Interesting watching your discoveries.

  17. This really is a fairytale chateau. It's amazing, inspiring, and gorgeous – a perfect reflection of the current stewards.

  18. Such a great find! Step by step, you're uncovering, discovering, and restoring! The weed-eating flame thrower is actually a strategy I've seen on other Chateau sites, such as Chateau de La Lande.

  19. I look forward to these videos every Monday. I feel like I'm going on an adventure with you to discover all of the chateau's secrets!

  20. Please please please get a period garden designer. You are so lucky to have this magnificent area that so few people have. I know it must be tempting to do your own thing but you need to restore it to its period. Please please.
Also, perhaps the pigeon holes need to have pigeons in them. You can start collecting. ๐Ÿ˜Š

  21. I love my weed burner! I highly recommend but keep a hose nearby since one never knows when it will be needed

  22. You both are charming and wonderful couple! Appreciate your drive to return the chateau to its former glory. Not sure if you know Stephanie Jarvis from chateau diaries, her friend Davy is a very talented landscape architect who you may want to discuss your plans for chateau gardens and landscaping as it may save money in long run! Best wishes and I will continue to watch as you transform the chateau. Joe

  23. That would be such a great place for a wedding area. Especially with the trees in the background.

  24. Exciting. The chateau will reveal more of her secrets as she trusts you with her care. Did you ,emotion the name of new BBC series is "Marie Antoinett"? I'm excited for you guys-
