Awesome video and awesome plants!!! Mr Maple is my absolute favorite for maples and Iβm trying to get more into conifers to pair with my Maples but I also am in zone 7b being in Southwest TN is definitely tough on a lot of conifers, Spruces especially for me. Nevertheless great video and ur garden is looking fantastic, seems like only yesterday that you was working with a blank slate and heavy clay soil and look at it now. Awesome content as always. π―π―
Nice conifers! Just planted a Golden Charm Thread-Branch cypress a few weeks ago. It only gets direct sun in the afternoon, so maybe that will keep it from bleaching.

Japanese Maples are addicting.
Yesterday I bought a Black Friday Ginkgo.
I'd been holding off buying a ginkgo bcuz what I REALLY want is a LARGE Ginkgo!!
It's just that buying the smaller trees, I simply won't have enough time on this earth to see them in the size in which I REALLY want to see them!
(just sayin…)
But yesterday I gave in & bought a small Ginkgo.
I did it bcuz the reality is I may not ever get a big one, and I probably wont be driving to the East coast to visit them either.
So what am I waiting for??!!
I've always wondered if Mr. Maple has larger trees for sale?
Larger than what they generally sell in their website?
When I say larger trees, what I mean is trees about 6-8 feet?
I'm just curious.

Many garden βexpertsβ tout the virtues of planting in drifts using 3, 5, 7 or more of the same plant for impact. I can definitely see where this has benefits but one of the things I LOVE about your and Stephanyβs garden is that you have βdrifts of oneβ; (I stole that from a well-known gardener whose name I cannot recall; Tony Avent, Dr. A, who knows). My yard is good-sized for an urban lot and could accommodate some drifts as mentioned above, but I tend to want one of these and one of those and one of another thing. I want all the specimen plants. You guys are proving that that can look very cohesive and lovely. π

I love conifers. Nice score on them and the cement pot. One time I found an entire four-tier cement fountain on the side of the road. I enjoy rehoming people's cast-offs. I'm also moving plants around. It's what we gardeners do. And not to brag or anything but here in the Pacific Northwest we can grow almost anything. π
Looking forward to seeing how the Nigra Compacta does over time in your lot! We all want things we can't have… isn't that the truth. In Oklahoma I am now testing that straight Blue Spruce, a variegated Orientalis called Silver Seedling which (allegedly excels in and requires shady conditions), and after reading Tom Cox's book I pulled the trigger on an Abies Koreana 'Horstmann's Silberlocke' (grafted on Firma). Living on the edge…

When the gallon sized maple was planted in your video, one can clearly see that the potting soil fell apart and exposing the original root system shaped in band pot. I had the exact experience when I ordered from that online nursey. I wish the nursey could have kept the maple a bit long after up-potting it to gallon size so its root can fill the gallon pot before selling it. Otherwise in my opinion it makes almost no difference than buying a cheaper band pot sized japanese maple.

Iβm currently trying to figure out how to grow western red cedar, Douglas fir, Sitka spruce, coast redwood in Houston Tx. Hahaha. Iβve wasted about 15 seedlings but Iβve learned quite a bit and am hoping to find out how to keep those evergreens alive and happy. We are zone 9a.
That Austrian or pinus nigra pine is tough as nails as around here there commonly used in road medians and they tolerate all the winter salt and pollution, summer droughts like nothing hit em
The "sienna sunset" will likely not stay tight like it is now..I've had it for years and it flops and has to be tied for me here in GA. I hope you enjoy that pseudolarix…your very tree, in your hand, came from seed from a tree at a friend's house in Carrollton GA. I grew it last year which is about 30 ft.. My tree in my yard is about 25 ft. now and set cones this year so I may get seedlings next year…hope you enjoy it, cause obviously somebody else didn't want it….
