What happened at COP 27? with Clare Farrell and Charlie Gardner | Extinction Rebellion UK

Clare Farrell and Dr Charlie Gardner discuss what happened at the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27), and what needs to happen next. The continued failure at the international level gives us even more reason to stay strong in our work to build movements that are too big to ignore.

  1. IS THAT ZELDA FROM TERRAHAWKS?
    FUCK ME: IT IS UGLY!
    PYREX PUDDING BOWL HAIRCUT.
LISTEN TO THE DRIVEL THESE TWO ARE SPROUTING.
COP 27? IF THE WORLD WAS GOING TO END, AS THESE ECO TERRORISTS CLAIM, SURELY, WE WOULD HAVE NOT GOT TO 27?
LET ME MAKE IT VERY CLEAR:
    1) CLIMATES CHANGE: THEY ALWAYS HAVE.
2)THERE IS NO EVIDENCE, WHATSOEVER, THAT FOSSIL FUELS ARE CAUSING THE DAMAGE THESE HYSTERICAL TERRORISTS CLAIM
    3) YES: TERRORISM. READ THE TERRORISM ACT 2000.
    4) GO TO CHINA WHERE THE REAL PROBLEMS ARE, ACCORDING TO YOUR LOGIC
5)NO: RENEWABLES ARE NOT CHEAPER. THEY ARE UNRELIABLE (NO SUN NO WIND) AND IT WILL TAKE 800 YEARS TO BUILD ENOUGH STORAGE CAPACITY, IF THEY DO CAPTURE POWER.
I AM NOW GOING TO DRIVE MY PETROL CAR AS MUCH AS I CAN……..

  2. HOW IS IT THAT WHENEVER THESE TERRORISTS MEET IT IS WHITE, MIDDLE CLASS, TRUST FUND TODDLER TANTRUM THROWING MUSELI KNITTERS?
    UGLY, IS NOT THE WORD!
IMAGINE WAKING UP NEXT TO HER (AND I USE THE WORD HER VERY CAUTIOUSLY).
I WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED IF IT HAS A DICK.
    CERTAINLY TALKS LIKE ONE.
    CLIMATES CHANGE: THEY ALWAYS HAVE.

  3. ✨🌎 27 COP conferences & not one single centilla Of change on rate of Fossil Fuel ⛽️ Emissions, Global COP conference System again has been infiltrated & Completely Useless & designed to fail because been captured by Fossil Fuel Industry ⚡️🌎⚡️27 ‼️Get a Clue Peoples

  4. I don't believe those in power intend doing anything. The mistake we make is thinking they care about people dying. Covid – and their willingness to exploit it for profit – demonstrated that they don't. Their plan for 2050 is that they make a fortune continuing with fossil fuels and can sit in air conditioned, gated mansions whilst the rest of us cook. As for the global south – the wealthy (with a few rare exceptions) are happy to throw them under the bus – after all, they can just whip up public xenophobia and dehumanise them so it goes unnoticed. Climate change will not be fixed without social change and there's no time left. The establishment know that this will result in civil disobedience, hence bills to restrict protest and imprison protesters. I think we will reach a point where arrest is the least of our worries. Thank you for trying to fight the good fight ♥️

  5. I think COP 27 or any COP 1 to infinitum is a waste of time. We, you and I must stop using fosil fuel. We must only vote for a party that will stop using gas as the common denominator for calculating the price of electricity. Today my son took his car to the garage for repair and hired a UBA to take him home. The car was an all electric vehicle. Before the energy rise it was costing £25.00 to fully charge at Tesco's today it costs £50.00 too expensive driver wants his petrol car back. Lives in a council flat, cant put solar panels on roof no where to have a charge point. He is fighting the system.

  6. The digital record is being written. It's important we witness the failure of our governments, media and economic system. I won't be party to the failure by failing to make the case for a clean, green, equitable future.
I am convinced our local and global situation would be worse without XR and our individual struggles. We have yet to win, but win we will. We were never going to save every plant, animal, insect, but by giving up, we would save less, so don't give up!
    Thank you.

  7. Hi, good stuff, lots to think about.
    Thank you.
Can I ask a favour? In every broadcast, every publication, put in maybe 10 seconds about what 1.5°C means & what 2°C means & an estimate of current trajectory,

plus one big-publicity dissertation on the same thing but in graphic & lurid detail that everyone can see themselves in, maybe bearing in mind "When the wind blows" & similar. (Have you already done this & I've missed it?)

As I understand it 1.5°C is the 50/50 point for survival of civilization & 2°C is 100% guaranteed structural failure & the trajectory we're on is 2.5°C to 3.9°C which means our species is gone.

  8. Extinction Rebellion had a demand: Tell the Truth. Extinction Rebellion do not clarify nor discuss the Aerosol Masking Effect. I know that Roger is aware of this. Kindly make the impact of the aerosol masking effect on the global warming process known to all concerned if you wish to proceed with integrity. For anyone that wants to check this out Guy Mcpherson can direct you to the peer reviewed papers that detail the problem this creates.

  9. Seems to me there is another angle and that is exploring those tehnologies that are improving and can now play a part in producing energy. Geothermal has had a couple of breakthroughs that make it more practical. One using heat to bore the holes reducing the cost of drilling by at least ten times and another brekthrough or use of old technology of creating.a radiator system deep underground that if combined could do great things. Nuclear power only needs an international inspectorate to make it even safer that it is already Compared to fossil fuels that is already kllling hundredsof thousands directly by pollution and accidents but threatens billions. In this case Nuclear is infinitely preferable. There is also the develpment of small nuclear power plants that are much safer again. The Norwegians have piloted new more efficent more long lasting windmills of its northern coast. If we have alternatives to propose we will be taken more seriously. Many of the renewable technologies now are only good enough in very sunny places or very windy places or their techologies are simply not good enough and demand far too great a quantity of already difficult to obtain materials. Research and development of all these things are desperatly needed if we are to be taken seriously.

  10. 27 COPS = Zero Emissions reductions…why bother? Now is the time for a global rebellion to stop the life destroying cabal. A worldwide boycott of the economy would get their attention.

  11. COP will never succeed in what it's supposed to do, as long as the fossil-fuel lobbyist are there!
I think this is the case, untill I'm prove otherwise…

  12. Why is it that you don't talk about the effect of Animal Farming related to greenhouses gases, and water and habitat destruction?

  13. You said there was resistance from petrol producing countries 16:25 and you listed Saudi Arabia and Russia, The United States and Canada weren't resistant ? The top five crude oil producers and their percentage shares of world crude oil production in 2021 were: United States 14.5% Russia 13.1% Saudi Arabia 12.1% Canada 5.8% Iraq 5.3%

  14. In rethinking COP, you might also want to rethink your own politicisation of the climate and environmental crisis – that at least since the 1972 publication of 'Limits to Growth' by Meadows (et al) has been pitched as a zero sum anti-capitalist argument.

Scientifically and technologically, that's unnecessary. In 1982 NASA and Sandia Labs reported on a seven year long experiment to harness high grade renewable energy from the molten interior of the earth. Yet environmental movements, from Greenpeace to Just Stop Oil, via Extinction Rebellion – have ignored this technology, and continued to push the line that economic and environmental welfare are diametrically opposed and fundamentally incompatible – resulting naturally, in a political impasse.

NASA/Sandia Labs estimated there's a minimum of 50,000 quads of magma energy available just from the US alone. A quad is a quadrillion btu. Current world energy demand is a mere 600 quads. Worldwide the magma energy available is effectively limitless – massively more than sufficient to meet world energy demand carbon free, plus desalinate sea water to irrigate land for agriculture and housing, recycle all waste, extract carbon from the air – thus allowing for a prosperous and sustainable future.

Why has your every demand been pitched in terms of imposing poverty to save the world? Is it because you are communists first, and environmentalists second? Is it because you are getting off on self sacrificial, morally righteous protest? I don't know, but you might want to consider the part the environmental left have played in making COP the green-washed failure that it is. Your politicisation of this issue has allowed the myth to persist that fossil fuels are the only way to meet global energy demand – but scientifically and technologically, that's a lie. The earth is a big ball of molten rock – and NASA/Sandia demonstrated the technology to harness that energy 40 years ago.

Status of the Magma Energy Project
Dunn, J. C. (Sandia National Labs., Albuquerque, NM.)
    Abstract
The current magma energy project is assessing the engineering feasibility of extracting thermal energy directly from crustal magma bodies. The estimated size of the U.S. resource (50,000 to 500,000 quads) suggests a considerable potential impact on future power generation. In a previous seven-year study, we concluded that there are no insurmountable barriers that would invalidate the magma energy concept. Several concepts for drilling, energy extraction, and materials survivability were successfully demonstrated in Kilauea Iki lava lake, Hawaii. The present program is addressing the engineering design problems associated with accessing magma bodies and extracting thermal energy for power generation. The normal stages for development of a geothermal resource are being investigated: exploration, drilling and completions, production, and surface power plant design. Current status of the engineering program and future plans are described.

Why has the environmental movement not demanded application of this technology?

  15. Print MONOPOLY or EXTINCTION REBELLION on so-called sovereign money. Spend your protest legal tender to pay fines, buy food and pay taxes.

    End Global Apartheid.
Remember, a statement of sovereignty is not secular.

  16. There has always been talk of doom & gloom but we still here & ime absolutely certain we will be here for the foreseeable future but of course I don't know, but what I do know for absolute certain is that our existence here on Earth has had an immense impact on the quality of this planet & these cop whatever T parties are irrelevant, the west is airing concern for climate control but only because the east is rising in power & status & they want a piece of the cake, money massively motivates but everyone needs to know that money ain't gonna buy another planet & this earth, this still beautiful heavenly body & the Ark for real does not possess life boats & there is no escape so we gotta deal with what we have caused because ET is not bailing us out, this is our bed & we gotta deal with it & we will because failure is not an option.

  17. Tens of thousands of people flew to Egypt to say that flying is bad. Many took begging bowls with them. That’s what happened at COP27.

  18. Does anyone know the plan? Please don’t say “Just stop oil.” Please don’t say “Use renewables.”

Tell us how many hydroelectric dams, how many wind turbines and how many squares kilometres of solar panels will be required. Where will they all be and why? How long will it take to build all of this?

Don’t forget that this needs to be done globally. It can not be on the UK.

Also, what’s the plan for no wind and/or no sunshine? If the answer is batteries, how many, what’s their capacity and where will they be? If pumped hydro, then again how many and where will they be?

Please provide as much detail as you want. As an engineer I will understand.

Really looking forward to your plans. Thanks.

  19. This kind of doom and gloom is wearing rather thin.
We have had 50yrs of Climate modelling predictions by the "experts" they have been wrong on EVERY prediction. Not some but EVERY PREDICTION.
What baffles me is that people out there are still taking notice of this sort of thing.

  20. Thanks Clare and Charlie, great information… the closing stage panic, having no agreement and going 'over-time' is absolutely the norm for COP meetings. It's a scam and only continues as a media reference point for governments and headline news in the msm. It has little to do with the reality of climate physics and the rapidly heating planet. Thanks again XR, ScientistsRebellion. JustStop_Oil, Insulate Britain

  21. How do I put this, but this was empathised many years ago, I am really trying to state in simple terms like explaining to an Eskimo who has never seen the Sahara desert so everyone understands & knows, people have sat around camp fires going back hundreds & thousands of years contemplating humanities directory, anyway we have been responsible for countless extinctions of a vast amount of species so to put it bluntly we are in effect the extinction level event in the process spanning this long period called time, we can however swerve this by realising our own survival mechanism or wait until Earth who contemplated complacency triggers her own, this is the race we are in & why we are called the human race, higher intelligent forces are also suffering & all we gotta do is call halt on our junkie adventure like we hooked on this suicidal mission, we must encourage every road except the 1 we are on, we can see so let's use our eyes & see beyond, rolls have been swapping for years now, you who was once deemed an idiot because you are so nice you must navigate this ship & seize control from the trouble making thugs who has had his day, this is not his story any more, this is yours, now save this species & Earth will save our race.

  22. It's a no Brainer why the media don't cover climate change there not allowing them look who owns your media. The same type of people owning fossil fuel companies all the 1% that are the biggest pollution carbon emitting killers of the poorest non emitting people of the world yes there killers living consuming super rich that somehow think there going to move in the areas least effected by climate . There security measures to protect themselves from the masses in the face of starving people . I wouldn't want to live in the faces of starving people that's a whole new kind of evil that's running everything including the cop27 or anything that might cut a dime out of there profits . But are they human no real indication of real human beings on the top I've not seen it just burn baby burn they deserve the worse that can be thrown at them it's so pathetic the leaders do what there told. No matter what the human $$$ cost just pathetic from USA and Canada to all way across the globe it's pathetic like your local news coverage will cover some stupid crap that don't effect but a few instead of covering the news that's effects everyone from sea to dieing sea

  23. I'm afraid that we won't see any real action until there's no food in the shops. Hopefully it won't be too late then 🤞

  24. Fossil carbon is renewable, it is being renewed. The growth of vegetation has increased in response to elevated CO2. It is the most important thing that is preventing us from destroying the natural world.

  25. On the 1.5 'issue': The absolute truth must remain at the core. So it must be widely said that 1.5 is dead and that this is UTTERLY CATASTROPHIC. Keep telling the truth as it is NOW, always, then you create a trail of truth, back through time. People learn to believe those who do this. Any digression from a policy of truthtelling as an absolute looks like (and is) inauthenticity.
Rupert Read's latest book is good on the 1.5 issue.
(Having said this, enormous respect and gratitude to you both x.)
