Rhubarb is a beautiful plant. I grow it in my front flower garden.
I harvest Rhubarb from May to October by following these simple steps.
1. Cut the flower shoots from the plant before it “goes to seed.”
2. Pull the stalks when you harvest being careful not to break them above the root or corm.

Awesome!
Will you have to pull the flowers more than once?
Yes, pull any flowers you see for the whole season,
Thanks!
You're welcome!
I usually pull the largest ones, leaving the smaller ones in place. Pulling half of the stalks is not a problem. If you leave the root/corm intact you should be fine. I pull as often as I need rhubarb.
You can also divide your plant in the fall and transplant some of it to another location so you'll have more harvest. You literally just use a shovel down the middle of the plant and take half of it to a new location. !!
That looks easy enough, I need to start growing Rhubarb now Thanks for the tips!
I am so glad I watched this. I didn't know about pulling the stalks. I cut them. No wonder my plants didn't survive. 🙁 I didn't know about the flower, either. I started a new bed with new plants last fall 2012, so hopefully spring 2014 or 2015 I'll get some nice rhubarb.
thanks so much for posting this how about the liquor recipe please!!!
Loved the hiccuping videographer!
Very informative video, thanks for sharing. I want to start a rheubarb patch for making wine, so will only need to harvest once a season, but will need large quantities. Any suggestions on how to get the plants to propagate?
thank you ,now i know why my plant snuffed it! i cut instead of pulled …
Thank you for advising about seeds on rhubarb. However I saw a video few minutes ago on this site where she said to cut the seed stalks off with a sharp knife! My husband went to do this and then we found your video so I guess my plant will now die. Why do people give such conflicting information?
The flower you just pulled out of your Rupard you don't want to cut that you want to pull it out when Ledean you too she cut hers out so guess that's why got kind of confused there so what would be the best way for me just to grab mine and pool Microlite I love rhubarb too but I've got those flowers on it so let me know
And when would be the best time to pick your rhubarb I don't mind is just now starting out to be like the middle of summer
Thank you for the excellent advice!
Cheers to you!!
Sound advice here about rhubarb. Thanks for posting. I have always championed pulling and twisting rather than cutting, for many other crops, too (zucchini, chard and such). To get a really clean pull, move the stem sideways in the same action. Anyone worrying that they've cut their flower stems off rather than pulled them: it makes no difference. But pulling is always easier. Why try harder?
What kind of rhubarb plant is that ???
thank you so much for sharing this important information 🙂
peal and apply salt WoW so tasty !
what if I want to leave the flower? Will I have more plants next year?
I like how you simply snap it off.
Thanks for the video please can you tell me if you cut the flower off after you have pulled the stalk can you eat the rest of the stalk thank you Linda mills
So… I just expressed the wish to plant rhubarb in my font Garden to my parents only to be met with scorn. Is there any problem with planting it in the front as opposed to the back?
Why would you make rhubarb ( with ) strawberries? By far the best pie I have ever eaten was rhubarb….
How can you make your stalk grow big and fat, my plants are 4 years old and still long but spindly.
I got a cotting from rhubarb will it grow from that please answer me
when you pull the rhburb can you 're plant it please answer me
hi great video. i moved into a new house quite recently and the whole garden is covered with rubarb, haven't got a clue what to do with it all I'm no gardener. shame to waste it.
NEVER rip out the stalks from a plant, use a knife !
Why do you think it is bad to cut the rhubarb? My mom and grandma always did, and some other videos show harvesting with a knife. I'd like to know the "whys" behind each theory. Thanks for the video! I need all the help I can get. Am going to "de-seed" right now! 🙂
EXACTLY what I needed to know, thank you.
Thank you for the information!
Is there a way I can email you? I have some questions and want to show you some pic and can send a video
Thankyou for the information
My rhubarb has very thin stalks, so any suggestions on how to thicken them up?
Great, advise…very helpful
Excellent advice, thank you so much. I was wondering if you could tell me what kind of rhubarb you have.
Strawberry Rhubarb pie, is good. But, straight rhubarb pie, is my favorite. (personal opinion of course.) Thank you for the video. Though, I am new to growing rhubarb, and needed the information. The pie is awesome. :-). And Yes. Strawberry, rhubarb, is good too. Question; "Is it okay to freeze the rhubarb? Thank you.
