What's more important in the garden: FORM or FUNCTION?

Is beauty valuable in the vegetable garden?
Are gardens that prioritize beauty less valuable than food gardens?
How should we be judging our gardens?

A few weeks ago I watched a live video that made me think deeply about this issue of how we judge our gardens based on beauty and function. After pondering this for a while I wanted to share my thoughts. It’s an interesting topic to come to from an architectural background, since a garden has the added layer of ecosystem function on top of human use.
