Growing and harvesting homegrown button mushrooms | Diary of a Yorkshire Gardener #mushroomgrowing

This is a brown button mushroom kit from Carbeth Plants

What I love most about this kit probably should be the mushrooms (and they are amazing!) but it’s the fact I can reuse the container and plastic lid as a mini propagator/greenhouse afterwards 🥹 (see story highlights for a full pic!)

Some of my growing tips below:

🍄 Initially put the set aside with the lid closed for around a week. When the mycelium has grown through the cover soil, open it up.
🍄 Ensure the cover soil doesn’t dry out by regularly spraying with water. It should be moist, but not wet.
🍄 Mushrooms first appear at the edges, and later in the centre
🍄 I have mine on a shelf in the living room. Not in darkness but not in direct light either
🍄 Once all mushrooms have been harvested, water again. After about a week, new mushrooms will appear! This process should repeat multiple times (I’m on my fourth and you can see how many baby mushies are on their way!)

Let me know if you have any mushroom growing questions and I’ll try help👇🏼🍄
