  1. Congrats on your onion harvest! Yum!🙂
The weather made one of my onions go to flower too…lost a good number to that crazy ice and snow storm that hit us in Texas. We planted at the right time…like you said we can't control the weather. We will still get some onions…so thankful for what we will get and what we already harvested thinning them out.🙂
Onions are super heavy feeders and love water. Perhaps the yellow is from needing more nitrogen; however, once the onions start to bulb no more food.
Excited for your inground onion harvest to come.
Thanks for the encouragement and knowledge you always drop on us!🙂

  2. Can I ask where about y’all are growing? Also, I would like to pass on some potato onions/multiplier onions to your family if you’d like to try them. These are old time variety that reproduces from the roots and I just plant em around garden and the make little groups that you can pull and harvest whenever. They don’t get as big as regular onions, but the flavor is good and they’re about golf ball sized.

  3. I don't grow onions but I was wondering if you were to trim back the greens and pull some of the soil away from the bulbs if you could coerce it to grow a little longer? Also, it is said that yellowing of the leaves could be from either overwatering or nutrient deficiency. Maybe try mulch on a portion of the red ones as an experiment for moisture. Thanks for sharing your progress.

  4. I wonder if you can use those bamboo shoots in cooking, the same bamboo shoots used in stir fry. They look like they’re about ready to harvest lol
    Free bamboo shoots fam 😎

  5. Thanks for sharing your onion harvest. Watch Hollis and Nancy's YouTube channel for growing onions they got some big onions out of their garden!❤🎉🎉

  6. Adding the roots back to your compost? Guessing that returns some nutrients but idk…

  7. I think you shouldn’t have harvested yet. Your bulbs still had some growing to do. You can cut the seed pods off the top and they will keep growing. The onions will tell you when they’re ready when the greens fall over and dry up. Keep up the good work and you’ll get there bro.

  8. Great job. I want to grow onions but I'm always too late to start when I actually consider planting. It's a learning process though, you'll e eventually get some large bulbs

  9. A way to help your onions grow bigger is to do what some call spooning. So go around the onions and push the dirt back, so the bulbs has more room to grow wide. I don't have a video on it but Homestead Heart just posted one. Your onions are at the perfect point for this step. The Red onions try to go to seed a lot quicker. That's why they look different from the others. Im not a master gardener just hope this helps because her video helped me. My onions are looking great.

  10. Don't envy you getting bamboo growing in your garden but maybe they can be used for canes to grow runner beans or other plants like that.

  11. You just need to clear the compost from around the onions to allow the onions to expand…however…it's still a nice harvest 👍😊
