    Why do so many gardeners say we must crush the leaves? Do we have to or is it just personal choice? I just think that in nature, no one is crushing the leaves and plants do very well. That’s why I don’t crush them but I’m curious.

    I was outside doing exactly what you were doing on a very cold but sunny day here in N.Y. I was in the garden piling on the leaves. I made the very same mistake first year of gardening also by mixing the leaves in with the soil with a pitch fork in my raised beds. This is now gonna be my 3rd year of deep mulch. Love seeing the kitty's. Riley must of been dozing inside where it was warm. Lol

    Hey Wayland my cousins gave me all the sheep and goat manure out of his barn. It's mixed with hay and I'm putting it down 8 itches thick and I'm gonna cover it with straw, leaves, and wood shavings. Let it set all winter and plant in that this spring.
