Poseidon has the title of storm bringer so it makes sense to have those elements are in a Pokemon taking inspiration from him.

Oh I have actually been to Crete. It is great but of course hot as hell. You may wanna bring a water bottle everywhere while you are there. Also they don't have traffic lights so look both ways and then book it if you want to cross the road. Everything else though was fine and I do recommend it to anyone who likes to travel.
Perhaps the Lamia, a female Greek monster who stole and ate young children, was also part of the design concepts? Although I don't think Lamia turned anyone to stone and I don't remember what their hair looked like. The previous gorgon inspired fakemon clearly uses the names of Medusa and her sisters though

Ok, so in ancient Greece there was a method of killing criminals known as the Brass Bull (or Bronze Bull i can't remember which one was right) where a man would enter a hollow Bull-shaped contraption and the underneath of the contraption would be set on fire, burning the man inside ALIVE through flames and incredibly hot metal. There was often specially crafted tubes on the inside to make the horrific screams of the punnished sound like an angry Bull.
It was so bad that even an emporor known for being ruthless was like "Holy Zeus Almighty, this thing is absolutely terrible!" or something. Obviously he didn't say those exact words, but you get it, it made even the most evil ask why they would put someone through such torture.
I was just playing a Pokémon game while watching this and somehow when the regional Florges appeared the gym leader switched to a Florges. You predicted the future!

the fire starter zodiac thing still exists because Fuecoco is a crocodile which are reptiles like snakes so you could say that fuecoco is the snake part of the zodiac.

No hatred to the creator, but I myself don’t like these Pokémon, especially since they weren’t free enough with the Greek aspect of their region
The pawn form is based on both leprechauns and brownies the mithilogical creature
I can definitely see there being two Medusa type pokemons because in Greek mythology, there are 2 gorgon sisters, Medusa and her sister, starts with an E but can't think of the name
Greece has so many mythological creature that you could make an entire Pokedex with just the well-known ones and still have more
Pretty sure Tengal was beaded of off/inspired my Tengu who are ninja bird people in Asian (I know them specifically from Japanese) mythology
I like these Pokémon, but most of them feel way to human
Also just a heads up, Hercules is the ROMAN name for the hero. His Greek name is Heracles.

The only three gorgons are Medusa and her sisters. I think you were talking about dracenae. They’re monsters, and there’s not only three of them.

Griffins are said to be based off of Protoceratops explaining the beak fossil and Cyclops are based off mammoth fossils, ancient people seeing fossils and making the myths instead of extinct animals

the "zeph" in zephaun references to zephyr, one of the wind gods (the god of the west wind if i remember correctly)!
