Planting Shrubs In December to Capture Summer Interest | Gardening with Creekside

Today we are planting shrubs in December to capture summer interest with Quick Fire Fab hydrangeas and Vinho Verde weigela. These fantastic new shrubs are relatively new to the world of horticulture and will provide the garden with early blooms and stunning foliage.

  1. Hydrangeas are my absolute favorite! Can't wait to see all of their beauty in your gardens next year. Thanks for sharing!

  2. Good morning from Raleigh! I get so many great design and cultivation tips from Jenny. I need to visit your nursery for the first time this coming spring 2023. Can't wait!

  3. Lol!! I loved seeing you place the shrubs, then move them around several times. That is so me! Gotta find that perfect spot! 😂

  4. We always struggle with hydrangeas! However, with all of the beautiful hydrangeas you have shown us this season, I think we'll try again! Are there any that are deer 🦌 resistant? 😀

  5. So many great plants, so little time 😉 I get great ideas BUT I have to keep from buying every beautiful plant! This will be beautiful and I am curious if trimming the panicle hydrangeas will create more blooms & possibly time to change color.

  6. Bring us along for the hydrangea early prune/Fall reflush project. I’m in North Georgia and planted 9 little limes in the spring that took off well but flopped badly once in full bloom. I did the mid-summer prune just to help the plants but did not get a second flush. Perhaps they’re just too young. I’ll see how they do next year and try again!

  7. After a visit to Maine in Sept 2017, I fell in love with Panicle Hydrangeas. Here in TN, I have probably 20 of these around my yard. I absolutely love them. Blooms for months. However, I sure would love to see them change to pink. Love your process.

  8. Looks fantastic Jenny. Can hardly wait to see it next year. It will be glorious. Thank you so very much for sharing this with us. Appreciated.🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦

  9. Love seeing your berm coming to life. It will be beautiful next season, and I'm sure that you will fill in all those spaces with wonderful perennials and annuals. Question about the pannicle hydrangeas: Didn't you mention a variety that turns more reliably pink? Was it the little quick fire?
