Planting Large Bare Root Plants (with ease)

http://www.edibleacres.org
When we transplant and establish much larger bare root plants we try to make it happen in the late fall / early winter. In an ideal scenario, there is no direct sunlight and there is a light rain / mist… In those moments the plants can establish very easily and don’t require us to bring water along to get them settled in.
Hoping there are some tid-bits and notes in this video that can help other folks out there, please share notes down below on what you’ve learned as nice ways to get larger plants settled into the land.

  1. I have 7 elderberry shrubs I picked up, we frosted kind of good and poring down rain(SW Washington) still haven't been able to get them in the ground. Should I get them in the ground asap or wait tell early Spring? Hope them sitting in their pots hasn't hurt them they are about 3to4ishft tall atm. They had been in the pots already for most of the Summer as I got them at a discount. 🤔Never would have thought I'd be learning more about gardening because I became a beekeeper.😅Thank you for your videos, Blessed Days…

  2. Hi from New Zealand, your videos are enjoyed by many gardeners here, I often start to explain how I've picked up valuable ideas from utube, and often someone will say "oh you've been watching edible acres" 😅
Anyway we are in first days of a very wet so far summer here, last autumn I took about 30 cuttings from a black raspberry, and they all grew. I sold enough rooted cuttings to pay for the initial vine, and still have about 20 vines left. So I'm planting them around the my 1/2 property, after seeing a Blackbird picking berries for its fledgling chick. The berries will be just for the birds and to take new cuttings each each year.
I've helped several people prune their grapes and other vines, and have several free plants growing.
Many thanks, and keep up your great videos.

  3. I love those gloves and bought 2 pairs! One extra tip is I wear non-latex/latex gloves underneath these insulated waterproof gloves because it keeps my hands dry and warmer since no sweat nor wetness from the big orange gloves comes through. These orange gloves’ interiors take a while to dry – unless you have a wood stove!

I understand the nylon gloves (like the ones nurses and doctors use) may be considered wasteful but I use and reuse and reuse them and for my particular situation to keep my hands in working shape – I’m a massage therapist – it’s kinda essential.

  4. Hi Shawn and Sasha! Long time subscriber. I found another channel called "Porterhouse and Teal" that is great. They credited your channel in several videos and have a very calming delivery like yours. If your subscribers need a little more "peaceful earth stewardship" I highly recommend it. Small channel, but great content.

  5. Hi! This is my favorite channel! I have a question maybe you can answer, I bought Seaberry seeds to plant in our food forest, do they need to be cold stratified? Thanks for any help and keep on doing what you are doing! I love it!

  6. Another awesome vid, I was thinking and wondering which vid is the best and all I could come up with is they are all amazing all the time every time and I enjoy them every time. Now having said that I do favor chickens because they bring a big smile to my face by their antics.
    Hi S&S 😜

  7. Great video you teach me things every single video. Things that aren’t even that obvious but pop out like woa GREAT idea.
Today I planted some rose bushes as a first layer of a privacy wall to the neighbors. Real shade tolerant variety. Also a fence line of native Northern California ferns. It’s raining here actively as well.
