Self Sufficient Me is based on our small 3-acre property/homestead in SE Queensland Australia about 45kms north of Brisbane – the climate is subtropical (similar to Florida). I started Self Sufficient Me in 2011 as a blog website project where I document and write about backyard food growing, self-sufficiency, and urban farming in general. I love sharing my foodie and DIY adventures online so come along with me and let’s get into it! Cheers, Mark 🙂

  1. G'day Everyone, fair dinkum I had never heard of strawberry spinach but I'm super keen to try growing and eating it because if spinach gives Popeye big muscles well then what would strawberry spinach do?! Cheers 🙂

  2. How did growing the strawberry spinach go, and did you use the berries in recipes or just eat them off the stem?

  3. My channel is about gardening and my pet toads you should check it out it's called faithfulfox channel profile is the same as the one I have commenting on the video

  4. Spaghetti squash is available year round here due to popularity. You don't have to boil it. I cut it in half. Scoop out the seeds and loose bits inside, then place it on a parchment lined baking sheet. Cut side down or up depending. Up is ok with this, or at least to finish it off. When it is done use two forks to feather out the spaghetti sized lengths of fruit. Go with the grain as much as you can or it cuts short and the integrity of the structure fails a little bit. Still tasty. Different mouth feel. Top it with whatever you want. If you have it a bit more plain a little salty fine shredded cheese like parmesan is nice. I can eat half of one if there is enough, but for a family of six I make two. It is a main course for us, but not served alone.

  5. Hi Mark – did you do a follow up on this video? I am so curious about the Strawberry Spinach.

  6. Hi Mark, I am a fairly new subscriber slowly working my way through your videos. I was wondering if you did a follow up to this video? I would love to know how you went with them and your verdict on each of them. Cheers.

  7. I am 51 and used to watch things that turned me on and now your channel is much more satisfying than all that bull so thanks. Have been gardening for 10 years with pressure treated lumber only to fail . I have learned more in a month watching you than ever so thanks big dog for that. LOVE your channel. Good stuff. My failures in gardening made me stop for a while but now I know I can make it with your help so thank you Sir.

  8. How soon outta the pooper can you add manure to the bed? I'm finishing planting except for the garlic til spring.

  9. When I started my Birdies beds the dirt settled down about 1-2 feet. I want to plant my asparagus in it. Will I pull out the asparagus to add dirt to keep the level up?

  10. You can also roast the slice the spaghetti squash length wise season and add sausage, onions etc to it. 55 min at 450f it will be amazing to eat we do it all the time here in Arizona in the United States.

  11. Thank you for such an informative vid Is it better to sow seeds directly into soil in the garden areas or is it better to plant them into seedlings then plant them into the garden area?

  12. I bake the spaghetti squash witholiveoilandsaltand pepper. Never hear of boiling it. But I use it with both a tomato sauce and a garlic butter sauce. My kids love it. I have a few in my basement right now.

  13. I hope your romanesco turned out well! Last year it was a new one for me too. I have two in the grow room for over the northern winter, already sprouted. We have a 4-5 month growing season so during the winter we grow root veg and greens inside. Victory Garden year round!

  14. I love to watch your videos, need one help from you, I like to make sauces and I have learnt a lot from your videos, do you know any book which has recipes for sauces or chutneys made from other stuff.
