اینطور بود که گوجه فرنگی جای خودش را روی سفره ایرانیان پیدا کرد.
البته خیلی قبل تر از آن اروپاییان نیز فکر می کردند که این یک گیاه سمی است و بعنوان گیاه زینتی از آن استفاده می کردند.
بعدها متوجه شدند که سمیت این گیاه به برگ، ریشه، ساقه و میوه کال آن محدود می شود و میوه رسیده آن قابل مصرف است.
