Downsizing the Frozen allotment | Allotments For Fun and Food

The day starts with a walk in the frost on the plot, I had my phone in my pocket whilst walking Scamp and just couldn’t resist.I’m getting out of the space I am giving up and just have the large bin of compost to move so its time to start on the bed preparation in Ernest. A fresh pair of gloves and I get underway. The strawberries have dried out and are doing fine in the poly tunnel. The compost is looking great and the vegetable garden will definitely benefit from spreading it across some more raised beds. Nets off and some clearing around the vegetables to accommodate the new compost is the order of the day. I use a magic stick to aid layout ….good times. Its a new time for me to be working with strawberries but then it has been very strange growing weather. Topping off raised beds with spent compost finishes me off for the day….take care. Malc

UK Allotments are the ideal place to learn how to grow fruit and vegetables. My allotment is a no dig allotment and I share how to grow vegetables and how to prepare a no dig garden. If you are growing in a backyard garden or homestead and you want some tips on how to grow vegetables I hope my channel has something to offer. Allotment ideas are always worth sharing and I am happy to share my gardening ideas and failures so that we can all learn to grow vegetables together. I also learn on the allotment nearly every time I am there and learning how to grow in a Polytunnel or greenhouse can be a fun an exciting experience too. If you are one of the many allotment beginners or thousands of people growing in your garden for the first time then join me growing on Allotments For Fun and food and get some allotment ideas

  8. You always so busy malc itโ€™s -6 here this morning. Itโ€™s been freezing everyday for 2 weeks now. Canโ€™t harvest anything as ground solid. brassicas are all frozen. Donโ€™t think we gonna get carrots and parsnips out the ground for Christmas but will have sprouts and kale๐Ÿ‘

  9. Very dedicated. My allotment is put to bed for December January and February. I don't have any hard landscaping on the plot. No raised beds. No paths. So in that case it's better not to walk on the clay soil.

  10. Hi Malcolm,, instead of an 8 x 8 shed,, how about a 10 x 6?? A more common size and it would probably fit where you thought of putting it in the first place!

  11. Malcolm. Any advice on how to deal with frozen sprouts? Should I harvest and keep frozen or allow to defrost on the plot and use when required? Malcolm. Any advice on how to deal with frozen sprouts? Should I harvest and keep frozen or allow to defrost on the plot and use when required?

  12. ๐Ÿ“ I know what you mean about pinch points around the potential shed position! Iโ€™ve made the paths around the beds I built on my lawn 3ft wide so as to not feel cramped when Iโ€™m working or wheeling a barrow. 2ft was just too tight for me without feeling cluttered and restricted, so I spaced things out. 3y on YT! ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿฅณ #GoodTimes ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰

  13. Another great update Malc , well done on reaching your 3 year milestone, here's to the next 3 lol , keep up the good work ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ‘
