August Is The Perfect Month To Review Your Garden Design ๐Ÿ˜Š

August is the perfect month to have a look at what has and hasnโ€™t worked in your garden this year. The plants are, for the most part, grown to their full size and when I planted them earlier this Spring I hadnโ€™t realised that some would get squashed by their neighbours, and others would get hidden by larger plants in front of them. Some are now in completely the wrong spot and others are overshadowing features I still want to see.

Itโ€™s also a good time to review how the annuals are looking, particularly the ones I grew for the first time from seed. Which ones do I love, and want to grow again, and which ones do I really not care for and wonโ€™t bother sowing again?

Because if we donโ€™t have a look around our gardens now, in the month of August, then by the time Autumn and Winter come and everything dies back or disappears, believe me we are bound to forget and then weโ€™ll have all the same mistakes again this time next year. ๐Ÿ˜Š

  1. Thanks for the encouragement I have made a big effort in my garden because of your channelโ€ฆ note to self I can move plants around if they are not happy ๐ŸŒฑโค๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Š

  2. Lovely display . Quick note on the pear tree. Most won't give fruit until the third or fourth year. It's a long haul sometimes

  3. Woooow dear what an amazing out burst of colours in ur garden ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ n wow the rains are making it even more beautiful ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿ‘Œ

  4. Wait till I do my sunny border cleanup. LOL you will see my drunken achilleas too..All sloppy and floppy LOL. You can deadhead them and they should flush out another bloom set before the frost hits…

  5. Look at your beautiful sedums and chinese plumbago. Mine are flopped all over the place!!! You can split salvias if you want something else for repeat planting, I'm sure you knew that though!!! Your garden is looking fantastic xx

  6. Everything looks beautiful at full size. Youโ€™ve reminded me how much I like ageratumโ€”I need to grow that next year. I grew it at my dads apartment a few years ago and it was lovely. Also, Iโ€™m amazed at the size or your Veronica plant. Mine is a wee thing. Maybe because it is the first season Iโ€™ve had it. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ Anyway, great reminders/tips as always. Things donโ€™t die back here to the same degree but they do โ€œdiminishโ€ and itโ€™s still easy to forget what itโ€™s like during the height of the growing season.

  7. Yes I have lots of things to move also! If you will chelsey chop your yarrow (achillea ) in spring it will help with the flopping.

  8. Love your tips. Itโ€™s a great idea to take note now of everything. Itโ€™s hot and humid here and afraid to move and plants right now it seems the sun is hotter in places in yard that wasnโ€™t before! Strange year. Love your videos and gardens.

  9. Hello ๐Ÿ‘‹ Janette, I love this video, everything that you said is so true, we must take mental notes and move things that arenโ€™t really fitting into a space. I have many plants like you that need more room or need to be seen๐Ÿ˜‰. Itโ€™s my first season with huge perennial beds in the back of the house as we ripped out the bushes that were there and decided to have butterfly gardens and some of the plants are getting huge so they will need to be moved๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜‚. Keep us posted ๐Ÿ’š

  10. I love all your videos! You always have such beautiful ideas and I need to do the same rearrange my garden to ! You really have beautiful unique flowers & evergreens !

  11. You are right. August is a great time to sit back and evaluate what has worked and what hasn't in our gardens. Your Sedum is gorgeous, hopefully the second one will be the same after moving it. I love your cat sculpture and it needs to be seen. Also I am totally envious of your rain….. here it has been nothing but blue skies and high temperatures. We are on red alert for the next 9 days with temperatures well above 40 degrees Celsius and worse still tropical nights. I am so looking forward to September!

  12. Thank you another useful and fun video Janette. Great tip (think it was Mary) about the Achillea chop in spring. Mine have been lovely but finally crashed with the wind and rain. I have already moved my dwarf Veronica, but it had finished flowering and one or two other plants. One of Linda Vaters subscribers (sorry but can find her name)husband said if it doesn't grow on a shovel it's got no place in the yard, which had me laughing for ages. Just hope the plants I've moved already, forgive me and flower again.

  13. OMG ….. I would have said OMGoodness …. but nooooo it is definitely …. OMG …. there is a giant Spider on the wall behind you …. That is the one thing that I will not have in my garden …. Know what I mean …. ??? …. LOL … I am still shuddering from seeing it ….. Hugs …… PS …. I have been doing the same thing as you …in planning my next years landscape ….. !!!

  14. Just stroking Lotte incase you were wondering ๐Ÿ˜‚ Thank you for reminding me to do this i know a few things that need to be done but unless i take note i will not get to it all! I wish my plumbago would do as good as yours! Everything look beautiful! I subscribed to your channel ๐Ÿ˜Š Now trim your bush so u can see your cat! ๐Ÿ˜ถ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿคฃ

  15. Always something needs moving, us gardeners are never satisfied ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ. Garden looks lovely Janette.

  16. Closing in on 2500 subscribers!
I have 40 year old Autumn Joy sedums from my late mom's garden in their original planters and they've self seeded at the base of those planters . I never water them they just get rain water. As for the floppy plants, you can do the Chelsea chop. Are you going to save zinnia seeds? I'm not 100% sure, but I think they come true from seed, so you could save seeds from any blooms you like. Your garden still looks beautiful, mine not so much. Happy gardening from the Pocono mountains Pa.

  17. 115๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ˜˜๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ™ great video my friend ๐ŸŒน .first time view your video my friend ..stay connected .stay safe..see you soon my friend .I 'm saara.your new friend ๐ŸŒน

  18. Yes, you gave me some great ideas, I need to move a couple plants! I plant things and forget how big some of them get! Your garden is so nice! Thanks for a great video!

  19. Indeed very inspiring and perfect timing I too need notes! How do we forget where these plants are snd their size๐Ÿ™„anyway fantastic video that Iโ€™m taking to heart as I sit on my deck sipping a Mule lol truly to hot here to move anything! Iโ€™m looking with scrutinizing eyes! Thanks Janett

  20. Lol ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ I think I did say that the David Austin Rose is quite tall ๐Ÿ˜‚ lol bless you! ๐Ÿ˜„ by the way, whatโ€™s the name of that plant with nice flowers beside the sedum autumn joy please ๐Ÿ˜

  21. Iโ€™m definitely guilty of planting things too close together ๐Ÿคฃ. Good tip to take note now that things are all filled out. My other problem is that Iโ€™m already thinking of other plants I want to add so need to consider what has to go which is very hard. ๐Ÿค” maybe Iโ€™ll just extend it.
