Before You Order Seeds Watch This | Allotments For Fun and Food

I Start the day indoors and explain how I recently took a bit of stick for my video title. In an attempt to rebalance the criticism I focus on seed and take an in depth look at the fabulous Real Seeds company that I use for the majority of my seed supplies , not withstanding those that I saved seed from which also originally came from Real Seeds. It was too nice to stay in so out I went and got this years first delivery of the golden wonder….take care Malc

UK Allotments are the ideal place to learn how to grow fruit and vegetables. My allotment is a no dig allotment and I share how to grow vegetables and how to prepare a no dig garden. If you are growing in a backyard garden or homestead and you want some tips on how to grow vegetables I hope my channel has something to offer. Allotment ideas are always worth sharing and I am happy to share my gardening ideas and failures so that we can all learn to grow vegetables together. I also learn on the allotment nearly every time I am there and learning how to grow in a Polytunnel or greenhouse can be a fun an exciting experience too. If you are one of the many allotment beginners or thousands of people growing in your garden for the first time then join me growing on Allotments For Fun and food and get some allotment ideas

  1. I haven't seen any bias on your channel, just hard graft and useful tips. My partner and I always enjoy your output.

  2. Yep, we use Real Seeds. A great company for the out-of-the-ordinary stuff.
We still use them but do remember that like most heritage seeds, "they are out-of-the-ordinary" for a reason!

  3. Hi Malcolm, I think that’s absolutely amazing a step-by-step guide for novices and beginners, had a lot of luck in my garden in the last two years I’ve grown ride it is to beat roots to French beans to green beans potatoes tomatoes and cucumbers, being visually impaired my daughters orders my seeds for me I am going to now try real seeds as it’s a step-by-step guide I think this is absolutely brilliant thank you so much for distributing the information I found it a joy when you get help BeingA normal pottering about Gardner and it’s lovely when we harvest thank you thumbs up for your videos

  4. Oh my days, never had a problem with any of your content Malc, I'm looking to order next years seeds asap, so very timely this one, have a wonderful Holiday if we don't see you before mate

  5. Oh yes titles can be tricky sometimes, however I watch your videos whatever the titles … just like your gardening space and style etc… keep up the great work! Have a great Christmas 🎄

  6. ABSOLUTELY LOVE REAL SEEDS! Welsh too 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 putting my order in this week. So glad you've promoted this company Malc. Danny 🎄

  7. Hi Malc I live in N.Ireland which is part of the UK yes I know there are protocol issues do Real Seeds post here or do I have to order from elsewhere

  8. I buy non-hybrid seed as much as possible simply because I enjoy saving seed and it is something i want to improve my skills as a gardener at. But saying that I am not totally against F1 seeds. I think it is more important that people find success with their gardening and then continue to do it, rather than struggling with some heritage seed year on year and then giving up. If that means using F1 seeds so be it. For example I have had no success for the last couple of years growing Pak Choi and Chinese Leaf, so I have got some F1 for those seeds this year I think. However Tomatoes and Peppers and of course beans I have found easy to save seed year on year (though I actually find that I want to grow different varities each year to try new ones).

  9. I use realseeds my self and recomend them for seeds quality but I dont like using there web page.

  10. 25:21 Excellent Malc. Thanks for the info on Real Seeds that was well worth the time. Lots of reall good info on their website. We’re in an age of information overload so it’s good to get a few pointers. I’ll be looking into them. And…I’ve been curious about the content of your manure loads, they just looked the wrong colour! Now I know. I’m a compost making enthusiast, trying all sorts of mixes. Main problem is it just doesn’t happen quick enough.
    Yours The Impatient Gardener😅

  11. I've been using Real Seeds for a number of years and am a big fan of their range. Today i've harvested a bumper crop of delicious Yacon that originated from them, and up until the recent frost was still harvesting numerous Achocha from the vine. First year i've grown both of these South American veg and they've both become instant favourites. They're both really easy to keep going year after year as well, so no further seed/rhizome purchases required.
PS – i do miss the relaxing old background music you used to play, but that's the only tiny critique i have. Everything else is perfect.

  12. We have Diggers Club based in Victoria who champion the preservation and promotion of heirloom seeds. Its where i buy mine.

  13. Howdy Malc!👋 Glad to see you are starting to get your horse dung. More great compost to come.👍
I really enjoyed the segment about Real Seeds. We have some great companies like them in the US…super how they do so much to help you succeed in growing food, etc. Real Seeds seems like an excellent company.👍
Malc, you have an editing glitch in this video…the music that is meant to be over you moving the compost is laid over you speaking.
Merry Christmas to you and yours! Enjoy those sprouts!😃🎄💕

  14. Seedsavers and Adaptive are good sources in the US. Also check out USA Baker Creek. Canada has some great open pollinated seed companies.

  15. Thanks Malcom I’ll definitely have a look at that website. I look forward to all your videos whatever the content, always something to learn.
    Jackie

  16. Don’t worry about those grumpy people. I like stream of consciences…..so keep ‘em coming! I enjoy your videos and learn a lot. But I got to tell you- get a gorilla cart with a dump feature. I love mine. Smile😊

  17. Thanks for this Malc! I'll be honest, I thought the same as your other viewer with your last "before you buy seeds" video (that it would be much like this one), but I wasn't all that fussed.

Glad to see you upload this one though, really helps some of us newbies!!

All the best and Merry Christmas to you and Mrs K 👍

    Jim

  18. Malcolm any one else get drowned out for a minute or two by music whilst you were talking about the empty compost bins or was it interference my end?

  19. I wasnt too put off your previous video title. most of the time I was all videos without reading the title.
I have already taken a look at the website but could end up spending a fortune on their site but was a great site so thanks for introducing!

  20. How have I not heard of them? Will definitely be looking them up thank you ☺️ ps I hope they send you a few extras for all the new customers you will send them 🎄☃️😂

  21. Might have a look at that seed company, they give alot of information which is good. Yay u got some horse manure. Fill those bins up nicely

  22. I don’t criticize any videos I watch as I watch them for fun and some great information. I buy local seed as much as I can I used to by from Baker Creek in US but they now understandably charge for shipping and it’s just getting too expensive. I too try buying things I can save seed from it’s just logical. Hope you both are having a great week keep safe and warm 🎄🧑‍🎄⛄️❄️
