Asparagus Fall Harvest From My Edible Landscaping in Zone 8a – 7b (ish)

It is really easy to harvest asparagus in the springtime because I can actually see it. But in the Fall my new asparagus spears are hidden to the point where I can’t see them until I do this…

11 One of my asparagus patch and what it looks like in my edible landscape
50 New asparagus spears growing in the Fall
00 Labor Day Marks the spot on my calendar
00 Some considerations before I start cutting back my overgrown asparagus ferns
40 Cutting back
22 Going ahead and cleaning up some other plants for Fall as well
45 I will be leaving some leaves for photosynthesis
24 Cleaning up and cutting back down to the ground so I can actually see the new asparagus spears
31 I’m taking out some of the tough woody stalks and leaving any new growth until it’s time to harvest my new asparagus spears
45 Now I can see more asparagus spears starting to grow
32 I am only taking about a third from each asparagus root
12 Again, Labor Day or just before is when I need to start trimming back so I can start looking for my fall asparagus to harvest
