Thanks to our growing Patreon community, we are able to cover the cost of equipment rentals and Cypress Trees for our chateau garden renovation!

Patreon funding goes directly toward renovating the historical Chateau de Lesigny!

Special thanks to our dear Patrons: Jesse, Bernadette, Theo, and Morgan for your outstanding support of this Beau Chateau!

You can help support our renovation projects by joining our Patreon Community and gain access to exclusive videos, updates and more!

Join us, Daphne and Ian, as we embark on our new chateau renovation projects! This week, we made a different kind of video to answer a few questions we have received from viewers about chateau renovations. By using the combined understanding and experience of our chateau renovation, and that of several other chateau owners we know, we believe this video can give some insight for anyone who is interested in chateau renovating. If you have more questions, then please let us know in the comment section. Be sure to tune in next weekend for a special weekly upload with Francis, our family, and a little Christmas festivities in Paris!

Our “beau chateau” (The 500-year-old, Chateau De Lesigny), is located near Paris, France. Most of the structures around the chateau domain need a full restoration, so we are investing everything we have into making the property thrive! We are learning more about french culture and developing new skills along the way!

As a French/American UC Berkeley graduate in Agriculture (Daphne), and a U.S. Air Force Tactical Response Force Veteran/ Kinesiologist (Ian), we share a love for challenges and adventure. We have a long road ahead of us and we are excited to share the experience with you!

You can support our renovation projects by joining our Patreon Community, where you can also gain access to exclusive videos and behind the scene access with Daphne and Ian! All patron funding is used to renovate this historical French Chateau. Every patron is paramount to our chateau renovations and we thank you all tremendously!

  1. My high school French students and I love catching up with you two every week. Today's episode with a bit of history of the château was fabulous! We wish you the best!
Don't forget to take time for yourselves! We all love these videos, but your health & well being is most important. (I'm referring to possible stress from keeping up with social media!) Bon courage de Wisconsin!

  2. I just love and appreciate both your honesty and dedication regarding your home and chateau life in general. Your vlogs are a calming balm, even though for you all the work may not bring you calm!! Your cinematography is beautiful…..and your Hunter’s Lodge is a dream! The chateau is quite beautiful too! Sending hugs from Montreal, Canada….and wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a New Year filled with health, joy and magical moments!

  3. I found you are the best chateau channel. Your romance is beautiful. You guys are so beautiful.I am a hairdresser. Please trim the bottom off your beautiful hair. I recommend argan oil warmed to make it shine and be soft. Much love from Texas! 🐕🐌🦋⚜️🇨🇱💞

  4. During the drone shot for "what to expect when renovating transition," it looks like the right wall is collapsing by, what I'll call the turret base. What am I actually seeing?

  5. You guys are great. Can you maybe give some information about the taxes to own chateau like this? (taxe d' habitation et taxe foncière) Keep going, you are doing a great satisfying job! Merry christmas!

  6. I stop whatever I'm doing to watch your videos when they are released. Question: Maybe I missed this, but which surrounding structure do you live in? Does your grandmother live on the premises with you?

  7. Good video! I am owner of a castle in Germany which is property of family for more than 25 years now. And I have seen many(!) failed projects of people with wrong expectations are buying such a property. So for example a common mistake is the weird idea that the castle will finance the renovation itself 😜. At the end I do not know many successful projects here in Germany to be honest.

  8. You are my favorite chateau channel. Especially with all this precious informations. I love your 10 bit video quality, but this time you fucked up the audio.

  9. Thank You.
WISHING YOU A PEACEFUL CHRISTMAS AND A HOPEFUL NEW YEAR 📯🎄🎁🥂🍾

  10. You two are simply such a likeable and relaxed couple! It's a pleasure to follow! Thank you very much!❤️🙏🏻🍀🕊️❤️

  11. Thank you for sharing the ups, and downs, of your chateau life! This was a really good look into what it takes to own and love a chateau, and while it is something out of reach for most of us, we are happy to live vicariously through you both! Love your channel! …oh, and pets for your pup!

  12. Yesterday I watched for the first time your chanel and today I watch all 16 videos in one day .Now what???? I need moreeee

  13. This is the best explanation of the costs of chateau life. The UK chateau renovation TV series make things look relatively idyllic in spite of the hard work. Some of the other YT owners are transparent about their costs, but the information is piecemeal. I have noticed that all the channels I watch are scrambling (more than usual) to afford heat this year. When you said "renovation costs an additional 1000/sq.m" above the purchase price – that's the kind of detail people really need! Also, French bureaucracy baffles US people: we don't see a Mayor = Planning Department here. The mindset needed to do big works is completely different from the States. Thanks for this!

  14. Real good honest advice! Its not the buying of the chateau that is expensive but the keeping up of it?

  15. We would love to hear more about your grandfather? He sounds like such an interesting person… can you tell us more about his story and his life? ❤️🙏

  16. le plus important : les toits .sinon sous cetaines conditions .chateau classé , ouvert à la visite il y a des aides du gouvernement pour les restaurations.

  17. I really enjoy and look forward to your videos!
Happy Holidays and a very, very Happy New Year 🇨🇦🎄🥂

  18. When you show the drone shot directly over the chateau it looks like there is a slight bend to it. Was it built in two phases? Maybe you pointed that out in another video but I missed it?
The ridge line also looks slightly out of alignment too but the ridge overall looks level or not noticeably higher.
Not surprised to hear about the high heating bills. .A few years ago it dawned on me why, in old paintings like that of Mme de Pompadour, she is shown wearing so many layers of such thick and rich material. It's like never getting out of bed.
I read a story about the Empress Maria Teresa, Marie Antoinette's mother, that claimed she would order that the windows of the Hoffburg palace be kept open in the children's bedrooms during the winter because she thought it made her children hardier. Maybe MA didn't mind the cold at Versailles nearly as much as people today think? Maybe everybody there was used to it?

  19. I'm so happy I made productive decisions about my finances that changed my life forever. I'm a single mother living in Melbourne Australia, bought my second house in September and hoping to retire next year at 41 if things keep going smoothly for me……..

  20. Love watching your videos and it is so wonderful to see the restoring of these beautiful château’s. Best wishes 💕

  21. Bravo your analysis and recommendations are perfectly representing the do s and the don ts to succomb to the tentatiion of buying a castle in France. What you have achieved so far is really great and fully respected the beauty and authenticity of this gem. To more years of renovation to come and happy holidays!!!!!
