I was raised in Texas, but by parents from the north so we never did green bean casserole. My husband loves it but I never make. It's funny because I decided to pick up some ingredients to do it this year and then I see you posted this.
That casserole is our Thanksgivig dinner vegetable ad I make a homemade cream of mushroom soup that has me not going back to canned. I'll make mine up and freeze but homemade you can make exactly how much you need for your casserole. This has been a staple in our home since I was alittle girl.

I love it, but I use cream of broccoli soup and evaporated milk. Last month, I used almond milk instead and it still tasted really good
