Stranded miles from cabin had to take a shortcut through the wilderness in -31F to the cabin. My family will arrive the next day on Christmas Eve if the roads are passable by then. I need to get the log cabin ready for them. I was working out of town for a couple of days and tried to make it home on the coldest day ever. It’s was -31 with the wind chill. The roads were so dangerous and when I got to my country road it was not driveable. It does not get plowed until the last minute and then sometimes not at all. Christmas winter storm 2022! More work on the homestead and log cabin will be coming soon, finishing the chinking with mortar, interior doors, building a greenhouse, harvesting fish from our pond, building a dog trot connecting both cabins, rainwater catchment for the house, solar, and more…stay tuned. Yes, sir. It reminded me of the winter of 1990, as a deputy Sheriff in Reno, NV. I've worn those shoes you were wearing! Five in the morning and I stop a guy for 'Warp 7' in a 'Warp 3' zone. All of my pens froze as I wrote his ticket, and I had to let him go with a warning. I cleared the stop and pulled into the local 'stop-n-rob' for a cup of coffee. I'm telling the clerk about my… dilemma. He says, "One of my regular customers just stopped in and said the temperature on his barn was 27 below!" That evening on the national news, the reporter says, "The unofficial cold temperature in the nation last night was minus thirty-six, in Rancho Haven, Nevada (forty miles north of Reno).
