Front Yard Garden

Yew Cottage Garden the best highlights of each month in 2022

It’s very difficult to condense a year of progress in the garden under five minutes but here it is! 😊🌱

So pleased with progress this year, despite very challenging weather patterns. The two storms in February left me losing half of my rowan tree and my eucalyptus tree.

March to May was unusually dry with little rainfall which I found really delayed growth in my garden. June then was a series of tail ends of tropical Caribbean storms hitting me with windy days on end. July was more stable however light levels from July to September were strangely dim with endlessly dull days or overcast skies, this I was more thankful for than the extreme heat wave mainland UK experienced and although these few months where stable at least rainfall was still minimal.

October & November was more monsoon than Autumn, my water butt was filled overnight, December was beautiful and dry and then an extreme cold snap for good measure which has left me worried for a few tender plants in the tunnel but it’s all a learning curve I remain optimistic than this cold spell will mean the Spring Bulbs for 2023 will be extra spectacular! 😊

Despite all these weather conditions as you can plan everything but the weather as they say, my garden had amazing growth, lots of plants moved from Autumn 2021 settled in more quickly than I gave credit for and slower growth I’ve seen in 2022 I know will look fab for 2023 gardens are always evolving and I can’t wait to evolve with it.
