Building a pond retaining wall out of rock and stone. Large limestone boulders are moved to the pond for the excavator to construct the rock wall around the pond shoreline. Some large stone stairs are built in another corner of the pond that allow easy access to the pond with the limestone steps. The rock is placed neatly along a point of the pond shore with a clam and grapple on the excavator. This allows the shoreline to be built up with soil to help the blue spruce trees establish and hold the soil in place to stop erosion in heavy rains.
The pond retaining wall ideas and design allows the lawn to be grown neatly to the giant pond rocks and edging resulting in and easier way to finish mow the lawn. The natural stone blends in perfectly to the backyard landscape with the limestone boulders scattered through the property. We are fortunate to have this stone on the property and that we could use it for this project to limit the cost of the material and increase the scope of work. The rocks and stone were moved into place using a Bobcat skid steer and Excavator.
Once the rocks are placed along the pond edge and into their final position, topsoil is brought in and shaped and raked in place. Once the lawn landscape and seedbed is prepared, we seed the area with fescue lawn seed. The creeping fescue grass seed is chosen because it is a great choice for this sloped area as this fescue grass is a drought resistant species and can take very little watering or maintenance. The low growing fescues do not need much attention or moving with makes this lawn seed a perfect selection for this natural shoreline landscape design

Thanks for the videos, Ryan. We look forward to the progression with your pond build! Take care.
Load up on brim fry, fathead minnows, crawfish, etc. Get that food chain established! Thanks, again.
Another good video.
Trees and rocks will definitely help with erosion
