A number of you already guessed the nature of my big New Years announcement. Yes, after 32 years in this English Tudor house (the fairytale) we are moving! Share the bittersweet emotions of one door closing and the excitement of a new door…many doors…opening. Of course, I want to share the process of starting a new garden, decorating a new home, and discovering a new neighborhood right along with me. Very nervous BUT one decision moves you on to the next one. It's all good dear lady. There is a reason why so many people enjoy open concept living.
This is such a timely post to start 2023 as I too am in transition. I purchased a historical condo and will begin renovations very shortly. I'm not sure if I am up to doing this on my own. Don't cry! You have a new adventure ahead of you, and you will make your new home the hub of your family's life. I had a smaller home before I moved to a larger one, and I didn't have room for my family or my interests. My 4 grandsons tell me regularly how much they love the new home.

That was my guess too! That u were moving ! Woo hoo Exciting !!! Bitter sweet but for you …I found it disconcerting to leave my larger home with a great view, where my kids had mostly grown up. Were we doing the right thing ??? But we love our new small newer place and our new small town and we definitely made the correct decision as the old neighbourhood has gone down hill now, and…the kids just move on along with you :):) in spirit and body – it will all be FINE !!

Yay for you! My husband and I bought our “Cottage” about 2 years back…let our daughter rent (pay the payment) it because she’d just graduated college. It made the process of downsizing a bit easier to head into. Problem now you ask..(😉). We think we’re ready to move in this coming year….but she LOVES that house and doesn’t really want to leave. With all the things…interest rates so high etc. it’s going to be hard to tell her “it’s time”… 😊 I’m excited for you and your family!

I teared up at your sons poignant message. My childhood home and my parents are no more- how I long to return but am so thankful I can visit them all in my precious memories. I recently left everything to move to the NC coast- a lifetime dream. Still in temporary housing I look forward to find my home for my remaining years- . Loved the way you put it- a less complicated life makes room for a richer larger one. ❤️😎 all the best to you in this new venture. PS: the struggle to let go of books- is so real!

I know what you mean when you say you knew it was time. I moved 3 years ago after living in a house we built for 36 years. It is hard but change is good. Did you get to meet the previous owners?

I made the decision to downsize two years ago and move to an condo which allowed space for gardening and my two dogs. No regrets More time to travel.
You had been hinting. Look forward to the new creation that you will graciously make your own—although I must admit I will be wistful for the potager—more than reasonably could be explained. You will make it an extraordinary home, and I enthusiastically come along for the ride! ❤💕❤
