I find it really enjoyable, bending trunks like that. With a good protection against braking/splitting you can take it pretty far. I have different (small) contorted junipers and thuja’s waiting to be unwinded next spring and see what the result is after one year. I found if you let your wire bite in on spuce it holds its shape pretty good. At least with the smaller(pensil thick) branches that dit not get any protection layer. Downside of this is clear wire marks!
I really enjoyed this episode since I bought some small conifers before xmas and never did anything with them, so now I have some ideas. I am wondering though where you will be keeping the tree over winter? Can you keep it indoors in a cool bedroom since I do not have a wind protected cloche thing like you have in my garden? Or do I not have to worry and just stand the young thing outside and let it fend for itself in a pot outside unprotected? Your answer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks as always, Nikki
Definitely not boring anymore. Hoping to get my blackthorn yamadori very soon. Its very young but straight so not your wishlist ideal. Will get bowl ready for it though. Keep growing.xx
Lovely work with this spruce Tony. This may be crazy, but the branch you trimmed looks like it could have made a nice leader. Haha you just saod what I was typing. Thank you for sharing Tony!
Hats off to you Tony. You turned that very ordinary bit of spruce into something that may be worth watching in the future. I like that you show people just how far you can go with bending. If only I had realised this 20 years ago!!! I definitely think you and Grandpas Bonsai would work well together 🙂
Hi Tony, I'm really liking the way your bending and showing those trunks who is boss. That spruce will grow on to be a beauty mate. Forget Becom.,bend it like Tony i say.

I’m not sure it’s a spruce. Could be, I get confused with conifers but it might be a cedar which would be a bonus.
There's no such thing as imposibble material, just an opportunity to experiment, try new things and learn!
Looks like a Norway Spruce. Glad you found a use for it Tony! I in fact Inherited a bundle of saplings today!
Amazing work Tony!!😍😊 I'm amazed at how much you can bend Spruce trees!😁
Great job with that one Tony, it looks very respectable now. 😎👍🏻

I saw a bloke earlier today in a video using a cable tie to bend a trunk back on itself. Looked fantastic when done. Some form of pine.
Interesting shape tony like to see that in two years time should look good I have done similar to my Mediterranean pines

You've made an interesting tree out of that one.
