How much YOUTUBE has paid me, My experience, growth, gear + Q&A || Small Gardening Channel

I am starting the 2023 gardening season the right way, I have been thinking about making this video about my youtube channel for my small gardening channel in the hopes that it helps someone out there on the fence about their own starting OR keeping up with their own channels.
I am sharing my journey in Youtube, my begginings, my numbers, how long it took me to get monetized, $$$$ reports, video gear and I am answering a few questions from you guys as well.

I hope you guys enjoy this video.

  1. This is amazing that you would share all this knowledge and information and experience with us. I've never really considered starting a channel, although I have been asked to put some of my piano music out there .Probably not going to do that. I love gardening too and baking, but wouldn't think of doing either one of those on YouTube. I have thought about doing one regarding transitioning to being retired and how to deal with the changes, etc. But probably will never do that either. I love watching and learning from all of you great YouTubers, but unless God kicks my butt into it, I doubt I would ever think of starting my own channel. Keep up all the wonderful posts — whenever you want. I'll happily watch and learn. Oh, and I love Epidemic Sound music that so many of you YTers use. I have actually downloaded several of the tunes I discovered on your and other channels and enjoy listening to those artists. Thanks again for all the hard work and beautiful gardening and info.

  2. This is a great video and super encouraging! I gave up on getting monetized and definitely got that feeling of "no one's watching this" and it got to a point where it didn't feel good or fun anymore. It's nice to see how much fun you have in your garden, and I'm excited to get back to that feeling.

  3. I thought about opening up a channel ,but I’m contented on watching you ,try to learn from your videos, I’m full time massage therapist, after a long days at work I just like to relax in my garden , walk around , weeds ,cut my flowers etc etc. maybe one day I’m from the Philippines by origin but living in Pennsylvania for almost 30 years, I’ve been gardening around 20 years now and I love it , thanks for sharing Roxana happy new year and congrats on 20 k subscriber’s keep up more videos always waiting for it ❤😊

  4. Congratulations on 20,000 subscribers!

I started my channel around the same time that you did, but I've never had the type of growth that you've experienced. I gained 6 subscribers total in my first year, and 1 was me! I've watched a few of these videos. I've seen people post regularly every day and have tremendous growth, and then I see people who rarely post, and they still have tremendous growth. The algorithm does not make any sense to me.

  5. Me encanta tu esfuerzo y te admiro y yo que no pude ya que soy súper súper mala con la computadora y no tuve la paciencia de aprender. Si uso mucho tus consejos y los de garden answer. Felicidades me siento orgullosa de vos!

  6. Hi, I have a YouTube channel, but I haven't been posting videos for some time now. I'm trying to make myself get back to it but I don't have the energy or enthusiasm for it.

  7. I watched your video while taking down my Christmas decorations 😊 I really enjoyed it, love how you are so transparent on what you show your viewers. I really like that about you, that’s why I watch your videos. You love what you do, and really enjoy helping others by answering their questions with what you know personally. Looking forward to many more videos Roxanna, so get in the mood 😂

  8. I am not interested in a you tube channel. I lose interest in those who are using you tube for a business/income. It becomes evident because they always want you to like subscribe and comment. I don’t like that. I joined your channel because of my love for gardening and learning. Also my son lives in Zionsville IN and he loves to garden and is always asking me questions. Your zone helps me answer some of his questions. He works and doesn’t have time to do lots of research. Hope this helps you.

  9. I love your channel. I feel you are real and most anyone can relate. Anyone can have a beautiful garden if you have the funds, but you have a gorgeous garden on a limited budget.

  10. Congratulations on following YOUR goals. And I like your accent and your style of dressing! This is a fallen world and cruelty finds its way into the minds of those open to it! Sad. Always respond kindly. So, I "bumped" into your channel about 6 months ago and find it very enjoyable. What I enjoy the most is when you make arrangements! From what I've seen so far on YouTube, your's are the best: the balance, movement, color…stunning! Continued success, mija!

  11. Hi Roxanna. I found out about you on Instagram. Once I watched your videos, I was hooked. I enjoyed the aesthetic of your channel ( music, chill demeanor, photography etc… I totally relate to being camera shy and sad about small subscriber and view counts. This video is just what I needed to keep going and just enjoy my passion and see where it takes me. I also want my grands great grands to see my garden journey. Thanks so much for being an inspiration! 💕

  12. In my opinion, you should have thousands upon thousands of subscribers. When YT recommended your channel, I immediately knew that you were a professional in graphics because it is a passion of mine. Add to that the love you have for your garden, and I was hooked. This video is really good as an advice to assess if a person has what it takes for the patience necessary to grow a channel. I don’t! Last and certainly not least, I want your hair! Wishing you tons of success and a great and happy 2023 for you and your family!

  13. This is great information. I would like to have a you tube channel. I find talking to family and friends, they are shocked about plants like loofah, many ppl I talked too thought it came from the sea. Thank you this is inspiring. PS l really enjoy your newsletter, and channel.

  14. Thank you for making this video, Roxana, and sharing your experience! So great to see that your channel has been a such a great creative outlet and made money as well! You really helped demystify it for me… my cousin especially has aked me to start a channel for years and it all seemed so overwhelming since I don't really know the world of video yet. Your video came at really the perfect timing. Thank you friend!

  15. I just watch gardening on YouTube for relaxing form of entertainment. I watch YouTube more than regular TV. I follow your channel because I enjoy your videos. The few videos I’ve caught where you talk more like this one and another you did with your husband made me like you SO much more. Very interesting to listen to. Often watching gardening channels I’m thinking how great it must be for them to have that documentation to look back on. So your reason for the channel makes perfect sense to me! Keep up the great work!

Hermosas.
    Buena suerte en 2023.

  17. Hi, Roxanna.I do enjoy your videos and yes am considering starting a YouTube channel. I appreciate you sharing your journey with us, it’s very informative👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

  18. Thankyou this gives me the courage to start a YouTube channel.its a challenge but will surly get there.

  19. I really appreciate the content of this video. It’s very informative. I work as a consultant part time and appreciate seeing the stats from your journey. The organic way your channel has evolved is cool. What stands out to me is your tenacity, your consistency, your willingness to learn and grow throughout the process. Good job!

  20. Congratulations on 20k and happy new year! I started my channel around the same time and haven't had quite the same growth but I also originally was going to do floral design only and then the pandemic shifted my focus to my garden which I prefer. How to videos can be really tough to film and edit. I like the process as well, editing is something I enjoy as is choosing music. I know I could push more to post but it's important that I feel good about sharing, not that I'm sharing just to meet a schedule especially with garden projects that don't always follow a deadline. One thing that I think is important is that a following on another social media channel doesn't necessarily translate to YouTube, I have a pretty decent following on Insta from my 12 years as a high end floral designer but those subscribers don't necessarily watch my gardening videos. But most of all, I think the key is to enjoy the process and be passionate about whatever subject you're making videos on because that's what people connect to and keep coming back for. All the best to you in the new year! xo, Sullivan

  21. What a great video, Roxana!! Congrats on 20k and thanks for sharing your journey. Lots of helpful bits of information here! Hoping for an even better 2023! 🙂

  22. Fascinating Roxana! I have no desire to have a YouTube channel, but it’s really interesting to see how things work. Love your video style, your beautiful garden, and your helpful down to earth gardening topics. Thanks so much for spending the time and best of luck with the growth. Either way, your grand babies will treasure these!

  23. Congratulations on 20k subscribers! I started my YouTube garden channel this year and I have a whole 450 subscribers but I'm grateful for everyone. I love making videos, editing videos and sharing videos. It's such a journey. I enjoyed all your data in this video.

  24. To be completely honest, when I found you in early 2021, I was DELIGHTED to find a LATINA!!! But you broke all the other norms for me too; a Mexicana, woman, who enjoys my atypical creative interests, such as building a garden, tending the garden, and all the hard work, sweat, and sore body that comes with this dedication…or maybe addiction. I'm the winner here – gender, ethnicity, and garden nerd – woo hoo!!! Thank you Roxy! If you take the time to make this type of video annually, I would watch and learn from it – the way you address doing something that you are scared of is priceless.

  25. THANK YOU SO MUCH! This is exactly what I needed! I've been thinking of starting a channel for quite some time, and this year for christmas I bought myself a ring light to motivate myself. I started home bakery in 2020 called Sweet Ness OBX. I would like to make a channel that is inspirational, focusing on how I make my life "sweet." From baking to gardening and everything else I'm into. Also while learning what others do to make their life sweet!!! You are such an inspiration and I applaud your openness and talent! Thank you again!

  26. Thanks for posting this! It’s super interesting to see someone else’s journey on here…and to be encouraged to keep going because it definitely takes so much work! Trying to make a push to 2,000 subs, so I appreciate your urge to keep going, follow your passion, and give it time!

  27. Thank you for being so transparent with your journey and channel! I have been working on my channel for a little over a year and am very proud to have reached the 100 subscriber mark. This video was very inspiring and encouraging to keep going!! Thank you again so much- you have no idea how helpful and needed this video was right now!! Best of luck for an exciting 2023!

  28. Congrats on 20k. That's amazing.

I started my channel in jan 2021. I loved watching other gardening channels and tours. But I'm in a townhouse with a small yard and laughed at the thought of posting a garden tour, I was like mine would take 5 mins.

But it made me stop and think maybe there were other people out there in a similar situation. Maybe I could inspire people with a small yard to grow a lot of good and flowers in a small space and lots of containers.

I think it took me me 16 months of hard work to hit that 1k. I was stuck in the 800's for ever hahaga

  29. Wow! 20K is fantastic! I too would like to make videos of my non existing gardens. I have 2 acres with a tiny house. This year, we built the foundation of a 15×15 gazebo and dug a 65'x90'x10' deep swimming pond. My problem is I don't have a consistent income coming in. Therefore, I cannot guarantee that the gazebo will be built this coming year. I fear people will lose interest in the lack of video content. The other thing is I don't have equipment needed for the videos and I don't really have the funds for it either. However, I do have all my plants to put in garden area. They are all sitting in my veggie garden. I have 40 roses. 12 of them are climbers. I still need to install the post for them to climb on. 2 reblooming lilac standards, 2 variegated willows standard, 1 double flowering almond tree. a larch, a purple sand cherry standard, a smoke bush, 8 different kinds of hydrangeas and quite a few evergreens. I have much more but I think the list is long enough. I don't want to make the videos for money but to see the transformation of the property as we are doing it all ourselves. I love your videos. they are calming and makes me want to garden more. I suffered from iron deficiency and therefore I always have low energy. Thank you for sharing. You give me hope.
