Growing My Own Wedding Flowers – Part 2 – Allium Bulbs

Spring is just around the corner and I really need to plant these allium bulbs! I LOVE alliums because they’re the perfect flower to follow on from the tulips. Although they won’t be blooming for my autumn wedding, I plan to cut and dry the gorgeous seed heads to use in floral decorations around the venues. I’ll share with you the 4 varieties that I’m planting and my top tips to make sure they bloom year on year.

  1. Totally random and I’m sure you have ideas about what you want, but I thought I would mention a book by Georgie Newbery (Common Flower Farm) that is on planning and growing your own wedding flowers.

  2. You are lucky to have such deep soil. I'm lucky to be able to go below 2cm on most of my mountain garden. It was a big learning curve when I started gardening here. Raised beds and imported soil is the only way.

  3. Ever thought about building a strawberry tower next year ? Or in hanging baskets ? Dud this years ago. Plated chives , chamomile in between…looked spectaculair.

  4. Question. I know this isn’t allium related, but I’m asking all over the place. Can I grow phacelia among my veg rows? I got a free packet with no info.

  5. And it begins, really looking forward to the flowers this yr. I am SSSo ready to get sowing seeds, I still have about 8 weeks to go.

  6. How exciting your wedding day is going to be with all those alliums and whatever else you decide to have for flowers. You do known that this 2023 is going to fly by so quickly getting everything wedding ready. Thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊

  7. It's so exciting to grow your own wedding flowers! I like the idea of growing them amongst your squash, that's a really good use of space. I've still got alliums to put in, but I've been delaying as I'm still clearing my messy new plot.
