  1. Happy. New. Year, I was watching your green house. I've been building hoop houses since. 1994. Out of stick panels and t post. Gone threw many hurricanes on gulf coast. Only damage was the plastic and shade cloth. Yours looks great. I included mine with stock panels across the front. Worked great

  2. Thanks for sharing this video Alan! I've been thinking about a small greenhouse for several years. Perhaps this might be the year? Oh, and Happy New Year and looking forward to another great year of videos!

  3. I built a two panel one about 8 or 9 yrs ago and still going strong on the original greenhouse grade plastic! Snow load no problem here in Minnesota. I do wish I had ponied up for the 2 ft risers though to get the extra head room and maybe a foot wider or so. But I am very happy I came across your original video! It was one of the best ideas for sure!

  4. happy new year and to let you know I have built one jut a bit larger than yours;;;or longer I should say;;;It is full of my sweets flowers and a small portion for my plant starts;;;lol;;;somebody took it over so I be making another one for me;;;;I also purchased a air pump with six ports for air in water installed in two trash cans 30 gal I think with three bubblers to each can cuts down on mosquitos and can make tea in one for summertime watering while the other boils out contaminants from city water;;;;have been using mine for four years now and no stress so far on plastic;;;;I also have shade cloth over mine;;;firs 150 temp morning when I went to open for the day made that happen;;;;lol;;;thank you for the idea and again Happy New Year

  5. I bought your e-plans and never thanked you. Thanks, it worked like a charm.

  6. I just used two panels on mine but I’ve raised a lot of plants in it. I’m thinking of building another one for my sheep. I use one of mine for a chicken brooder.

  7. Well Alan, you started it here!! I went on YouTube to find a simple Greenhouse that could be built simply. Yours popped up- I had built several shelters for animals with Cattle Panels and a tarp or other materials, however no greenhouse!

Sooo I watched your video multiple times and did my own thing… it took me 2 weeks and I had an awesome green house with sides that rolled up as well as chicken wire on the bottom to keep out other kritters. And two benches for my seedlings, etc… I absolutely loved it… I also got shade cloth and used that… then in April… tornadoes 🌪 hit… it only takes 1 small one to do massive damage!! We were blessed that the tornado hit our greenhouse and not our house… it twisted our greenhouse and ripped the plastic off… the studs i used was 4" off as well as the door.

Sooo this month we will be rebuilding it and putting it back in use… we also have used your basic design to build a HoopCoop and A Sheep pin, Goat Hoop House, a Dog HoopHouse and a Hay Hoop Hut.
We've planned to build a larger greenhouse that's raised 24" up, and are so excited about this. These are relatively inexpensive to build and sure do hold up to our crazy Texas weather!
I didn't realize you have plans, so I just purchased them for a young couple we are mentoring and teaching to grow your own food.

Thank you for sharing this… love the wisdom and knowledge you share.

    Blessings

  8. Hey folks, this when I first viewed It was in my mind brilliant. Alan thanks for sharing this, it's helped thousands of folks I'm sure.

  9. I love the idea. I wish I had the plot to build one I hear it's the way of growing in the future. I don't think that would save citrus trees from 10°. I used shade cloth during the heat wave and they didn't work so well for me. I hope we don't experience another year like last year.

  10. I made my 3 panel in 2014, built it in my back yard before moving it closer to my garden after I prepared a spot for it. I used cheap landscape timbers for most parts because they were cheap. Had a windstorm within the first year or 2 try to cave in one side so I built in shelves on that side to push the side back out. It has served my well ever since serving to get plants started in the spring, keep greens going late into the fall and as storage of my tomato cages during the winter.

  11. Great video Alan, been watching your videos for years now and have enjoyed them all thanks again for your channel.

  12. Thank you for taking us to memory lane 😁
My husband and I build a green house with the corrugated policrbon panels, but we need to figure out how to create more venelation. So, if you build it with this material, please make sure you design it with enought venelation.
    Keep up the good work
    God bless you

  13. I never saw your greenhouse on YouTube or anyone's. I built a greenhouse on my back deck many years ago. I used a frame in the middle and put two together in the middle and three connected in a row for a total of six cattle panels.

  14. Love it. I made a grow tunnel out of cattle panels this oast year and threw a blue shade cloth over the top third of it and it really did help keep my plants from burning up. Some still did but the majority of them were happy for the shade above. I'm in north Texas, NW of Dallas and we never know what to expect from Mother Nature….

  15. I built several back in the 1960's but squared off the top. All movable, worked great. Thanks for sharing.

  16. Built one (THANK YOU FOR THE IDEA) about 4 years ago, and it makes me smile still. There's a couple videos of it on my channel if you want to check it out. But yeah, you had some awesome inspiration and genius with this.

  17. Very durable. Have built 2 shade structures like that for protecting plants. My small green houses use pvc hoops. My large one I used chain link top rail pipe. Tunnels are very efficient structures. Wind, snow doesn't hurt them. Mine have survived 70 mph winds. I have found that here in N Az the white plastic lasts longer. Have gotten 6-7 years on my smaller ones.

  18. I built a three panel greenhouse. I used greenhouse plastic and used the white plastic off steel fora shade. I also buried drainage pipe around the greenhouse and I push air through them to help heat and cool it

  19. Thanks for the very kind words about our hoop house. The polycarbonate panels allowed us a much more durable design that would withstand the hail, high UV, and snow loads at 8000' in the mountains of CO. I hope you and your viewers find it useful.

  20. I love these Texas Prepper greenhouses! They stand up to the wind and heavy snow, and they are perfect for small backyard areas. We use ours to extend the season in Wyoming. We get it going as early as possible. We put ours on a foundation built with 4x6s to raise it up some, and I don't know if is necessary, but I put in a 2×4 ridge beam for snow. Haven't had any issues. We grow tomates and peppers in it, in wicking tubs, every season, and they do great. Bought the plans some years ago, and have them in a notebook. Have build several with friends.

  21. What a nice surprise to see my hoophouse in your video! The shade cloth wasn't anywhere near big enough so I'll be using a much larger one for this coming season. It makes a huge difference in the temperature. I'll also be upping the percentage to 50 instead of the 30 I used this last summer.
