  1. Trying to buy the seeds or small cattappa tree..plant in yard…need do a little more looking..usually I get thru Amazon.get dried 10 pack…but got a few to try from local store..

    Endurance…could be a brand..
Cattappa and Guava leaves with a sprinkle of Cuban coffee grounds…305 style..

    No goof..
    Nice info…

  2. Alex: make sure you test your water to know how tannins will affect the chemistry!
Me: throws entire handful of dry leaves into tank without testing 😅

    Endurance

  3. You have much endurance, in the time and materials, you have to research to bring us this much appreciated information as always well done 👏

  4. Hi, I enjoyed this video and didn't need endurance at all:)
That reminds me, I need to comment on the tannins vid, very much enjoyed that one as well!
I actually found myself thinking I would buy these "deep dives" for my library if made available in such a format…
    A suggestion for continuing with this topic of botanicals;
    Usnea.
This last year (happy new year 🙂
I learned about this lichen called "Usnea" that grows abundantly here in the PNW, it has been used for generations as a medicine, and there are some who are testing its use in fish.
One use is for ammonia burn, as it can coat the gills in a helpful way (it can people with smoke inhalation).
I have been trying it out myself, but no hard facts to share.
I look forward to the continuation of this series 👍

  5. It must have taken a lot of endurance to do the research for this video. I really enjoy this long form and informative type content. Your a wealth of knowledge Alex keep up the great work

  6. Hello good vid:] I have used grape leaves and apple leaves. Why because I have both in my backyard and seem tasty! Next year I will try taking from my plum tree. Fruit trees seem like a good call maybe even the fruit? Seems like it is a good call to use trees and plants that live close to water which are a select group of species.

  7. Hi Alex, thank you for all the work and time you put in researching these informations.
Willow bark and leaves are said to help against algae because of the salicylic acid (aspirin) they contain. They are also said to contain vitamins, minerals and fiber. Did you find informations about willows in your researches?

  8. I have just started using loquat leaves (from our tree) as l recently ran out of IAL ….. too soon to draw any firm conclusions but seems to be very similar with maybe a slower breakdown and release of tannins

  9. Don't really need endurance ti get through long form videos when the subject is so interesting! Thanks for sharing this info with us all!

  10. Great informative video. The endurance you must have to make such a long video. Hats off!

  11. Talking about copper: I had a copper wire bending an Anubias leaf into position above the waterline, but its bottom top was touching the water. I didn't have shrimp in the tank at the time, so when I did put shrimp into the tank and one of them died in a few days, I freaked out and removed the wire. I finally found an API copper test and tested my water and it came out copper free! But boy was that a ride until I found that my local fish store had a reliable test! Now I'm curious how copper WOULD get into a tank if the bottom few millimeters of my wire didn't do it 😂

  12. Endurance! 😉☺️

I keep tiny tanks so I cut up my leaves into miniature slivers and add a bunch of this "confetti" to my tanks. A whole leaf would be way too much for a tank of mine, half a leaf is enough for three for my purposes ☺️

  13. I went to the gas station in a sleepy stupor and bought something from the counter for "endurance". I haven't been able to sleep since.

  14. @Fishtory, I recently heard that Indian Almond leaves harvested in a city park caused the death of thousands of shrimp. I was told it was because the leaves absorb the pollutants of the city. What are your thoughts? TIA 🙏 Btw. I Endured.

  15. Thank you so much for the video! Been wondering about a lot of this stuff and this cleared up alot about it. I typically use oak leaves because they're in my back yard. I have noticed my borneos like sitting on them and now i know why.
Again thank you for putting in over 12 hours of research into this. Must of taken a lot of perseverance and endurance!

  16. Super informative and well researched video! Kudos! So, they are good and safe for a turtles' tank right? I bought a 100 of these leaves for $15 bucks. Should I boil them?
