How to Grow Melon ‘Charentais’, Growing Melons, Vegetable Gardening
Having been given 3 seeds of Melon ‘Charentais’ I sowed them in March. The seeds germinated easily and quickly. The link attached below is for the original seed sowing.
The plants were pricked out into 9cm pots and once they were about 12-15cm (4-5”) high small canes were added and plants loosely tied up. As growth progressed the plants were re-potted into 10.5cm pots and then to 13cm pots. The small canes were retained but with plants having additional ties added.
Today, 2nd June, I potted up the Melons into 2litre sized pots and added proper 3’ high bamboo canes. Additionally, the smaller canes were removed together with the old ties.
The melon plants were then tied up the new bamboo canes and firmed once finished.
As the season and plants progress further updates will be made.
