  1. I love The Grow Family Network…. I have a ton of jambalaya Okra seed and hickory king corn seed which I have tested and are alive and viable for next spring. Would be no problem to send you some. doolittie@bellsouth.net

  2. Use food grade diamatceous earth for the ants. It will slowly kill them and/or make them vacate the pot of soil. I use it around my garden. However, it's not just a bad bug killer. It will harm good bugs if they get it on them. You should do some research before using it.

  3. Man you guys have everything growing over there. I love these lil squash but never actually seen them grow on a vine….they were always in the store. Waiting on Bhevs to show us if we can stir fry the leaves.

  4. Pam says- y'all can put it up that oak tree in your food forest. I just needs something to climb up to the branches like a clothesline or old fence. Under a canape, leaves over the roots will protect it most winters.

  5. Hi. You. Can grow the chayote in the high tunnel all year round in your zone. If you are in zone 8-9 you can plant it in the ground and cover the roots with leaves – up to 3 feet. It will over winter and return in the spring. I live in zone 7a. And have been growing chayote for years.

  6. It will work and it will produces much much more next year. Since it is in container, remember to fertilize it before spring.

  7. Last Sunday, I prepared stuffed mirlitons. I stuffed them with shrimp and crabmeat. I bought them from Ideal Grocery, one of the local Hispanic supermarkets in Baton Rouge. I plan on growing my own next year.

  8. Love chayote, I have tried a couple of times without success. Will keep trying! Hope it survives. Each one gives a lot of food for the family. Blessings

  9. Yes Bev your right. Cook it . Stir fry the vine. I'm glad you guys got some nice ones. They are a good size. Make soups, pickke, juice, stir fry or just steam like your potatoes. Those are smooth skin, but some are white and have thorns on.

  10. Did you call your vine “Mirliton”? Oh mine I have to visit Louisiana. My great grandma had the same name for this squash. Passion fruits!!!! Make delicious ice cream 🍨. Beautiful work on your farm.

  11. Spread ground coffee around the sugar cane roots and let some mint herbs grown around it and kiss the ants good bye.

  12. Lmbo! Sis., you told him to. Those are so really big squash. Thanks for sharing y'all exepirements with us. Much Respect. Peace always

  13. To everyone here, try this mirliton site on Facebook for loads of info, recipes, buying and selling heirloom varieties and mirliton projects, the main one being The Official Mirliton website with info on The Ishreal Thibodeaux White Mirliton Project. The web site mirliton.org is a creation of Dr. Lance Hill of Tulane Univ. in New Orleans. The white mirliton project an effort on the part of Chef John Folse, along with David Hubbell, who happens to have videos here on YouTube. I am a small part of this project and there are several others that have been involved from the beginning, one being Paul D'Anna of Metairie, LA, who often has heirloom varieties for sale. Please check it all out. mirliton.org Thanks

  14. I love your place and the fact that you're into mirlitons. For years I strung ropes from the fence where my mirlitons were planted in every direction, up as high as I could. My entire back yard was like a giant spider web and would get totally covered at the height of the season. I'd have to use my 12' ladder and a 20' pole to reach some of my mirlitons 30' up my oak tree. Great work spreading the gardening word. Love and Peace.

  15. I am hoping I will get some chayote fruit this year as well — had nice lovely bush, climbing everywhere last year and no fruit

  16. All the parts of chayote are edible. Shoots and the leaves make an excellent side veg with onion and bacon

  17. That's a lesson! You can eat the tips? Or were you saving to start more?

  18. Did the tree survive. I’m thinking of planting a chayote, I’m in Georgia, so I wonder if I’ll get fruits before it gets cold.

  19. The 2 of you are so sweet to each other. Thanks for sharing your video. God bless you both.
