  1. I vote for the bottom to swing out — maybe an arm attached to put it out and lock it open?

Terry, what are the dimensions of your tunnel? Impressive rebuild!
    ~ Sandra

  2. I have those vented mesh windows and the squirrels have trashed them with their claws. Little buggers.

  3. You have been busy Terry. Hats off to you. I would have the windows so the opening is at the bottom and keep the rain out. Was wondering why most of your wood is not painted to make it last longer?

  4. Great update Terry,
These projects always interest me and I was considering a similar system but I'm put off adding a second layer in my Tunnell as it might so green on the inside so will the second layer be air tight or ventilated?
I would put a scissor hinge on the window like you have on a caravan roof vent.

  5. If you ask waterboard contractors they always have pipe of cuts that they might pass onto you for a beer and perfect for this project.

  6. I think you have already talked yourself round to, in my opinion, the better option of bottom opening. Thanks for the update Terry and take care

  7. Open windows from bottom out i think to avoid knocking into them outside in addition to issues of rain you mentioned. Shame you can-do slide windows Terry

  8. Looking good, Terry!! After seeing the soil on the door from the rain splashing, that might be something to consider with the windows. It was an excellent demonstration of how rain can spread disease from ground to our plants !!
    Have a great week Terry!!
    Cheers Jason and Colleen 🌱🌱🌱

  9. Terry window bottom out would be my way. but I think you'll sort it, good luck mate.
    Sam at allotment36.

  10. Hi Terry I think window open from the top, easier to prop open from the inside and shed the rain away rather than in. You could put some roof felt over the gap at the top where the hinges are to stop rain. 👍🏻🤠

  11. Why bother about the windows halfway up. Warm air rises and by venting at the highest points of the not curved front and back walls you would go with the flow. Maybe you are sidetracked by the original design of the shell that you are about to remove, Not having windows halfway up would simplify things.Maybe you need a solar powered fan to enhance airflow. If condensation builds up between the 2 skins, I recommend to blow in air from the outside, blowing in air from the inside wil result in more condensation.

  12. The polytunnel looks excellent, Terry. Great progress, Agree, bottom opening works better on the windows.
    🌱Happy gardening and building🌱

  13. I would go with what you said yourself, bottom out, deters rain getting in.My word, remember you talking of building this polytunnell, you really did yourself proud, and saved yourself a fortune. It looks so sturdy. So you should be happy, you've done a super job

  14. Hi Terry tunnel is getting there now mate when do you plann to put the second cover on,and I'd go bottom opening out with the window like you said water wil sit in it other wise

  15. Hinged top and opening bottom. Maybe keep a lookout also for some old window stays to vary the openings 👍🏻

  16. That is a good size polytunnel. Hopefully if it all seals up well you can put some heating in to keep you warm on your bleak days. Take Care 🦘Cher

  17. Hiya Terry. That is a great sized tunnel. I would def hinge windows at the top. Question re double skin…will you get mould/algae growing between the skins? If so will you have access to clean in? I ultimately want a decent polytunnel but this year I’ll need to make do with a cheaper one since we have a new roof to put on the house 😳. I’ll reinforce whatever I get to make it as robust as I can. Have a good week. Mags.
