  1. I have had a warning that in around 12 day’s the USA will have a cold blast from Siberia. This will be -89.5 below zero incoming. I pray it’s wrong but don’t know. Heads up

  2. What would also be neat, would be everyone sharing recipes, from their pantry challenge! You may give each other new ideas to make, if you choose to do this challenge! Even for a week, it would be great to practice, and learn, and hear from others! God Bless, and much love from East Tennessee

  3. I am putting in metal shelves and redoing both pantries as you speak. I have been saving for the shelves for months. Rotating, reorganizing and making a list for filling gaps. We eat from the pantry at least 3 days a week as I am constantly canning and growing.

  4. ??AUTUMN Are you just talking about store bought pantry items and not canned items? I thought our canned items would last for 5 plus years

  5. We call it financial fasting. On January 25th we will be on 2 months with zero spending except for utilities. We are right up against expiration dates. That's what happens when you stockpile for years.

  6. I do it to save money and use food that is a few years old and using the money to purchase new foods

  7. Autumn, I don't know about others, but I would love to see some of the meals you are making for your family in your pantry challenge.

  8. GREAT DEPRESSION COOKING WITH CLARA
    GRANDMA FERAL 💖🙂
Wonderful channels to learn how to cook with very limited resources. A very necessary skill in hard times.

  9. This video came just at the right time. I found two cans of bad frosting that just got thrown out….sigh….

  10. We have been using our pantry for a year now. I make a quarterly (every 3 months) run to the store to replace what we have used. There are only two of us, and I have found doing this I spend only $500 a quarter, that breaks down to about $160 a month per year. We do buy bread, milk, fresh fruit and veges about trice a month. That's it for our monthly grocery bill. Due to work schedules we aren't always home to cook a meal. But we still use the pantry for something quick to eat, or make something in the crock pot ahead of time. People will be surprised how much money they spent buying groceries all the time when they have a pantry full, instead of replacing what they have used. Good luck to those who do this. It's hard to not run to the store at first, but does get easier with time.

  11. We chose not to buy gifts for Christmas, to save money and I'm doing the challenge somewhat differently. I'm choosing to continue with buying my usual groceries(inflation), but getting meats out of freezer and canning them up. Also, using veggies in freezer before I use canned or fresh. I'm on a canning roll and loving it!

  12. Challenge is no problem BUT I still HV to buy his 2 percent milk each week, he won't do frozen ones and his salad fixings. Be happy to use my freezer, canned up items to clear it out of older things. If it was summer, veggies n fruits wouldn't be needed. This will be interesting, take notes along the way

  13. Thank you for this opportunity to share with us about this challenge. I am trying out winter sowing for my garden starting for this spring.

  14. My biggest take away from this one is that people allow children to dictate what they will and won't eat for dinner. In a SHTF scenario, that will not be an option. There is no time like the present to put a firm but loving stop to this. Growing up, there was only thing that my mother made that I was not required to eat, everything else was eat or go hungry. Until children are buying there own food, my kitchen is a dictatorship, not a democracy.

  15. Nothing goes to waste here. I am a family of one. I cook so I have multiple meals. Grocery shopping once a month. I have food storage and my kitchen cabinet. I pull from freezer and cabinet for meals. On a six month basis, I rotate. Also, quarterly I inventory which includes location. I have a graphic showing where each tub and box is. It took a while to figure out.

I get a senior nutrition box monthly and twice a month the produce truck comes. This saves me so much. I only have to buy what's needed.

I cook from scratch and love to bake. I started rationing food months ago to make it easier when you have no choice.

Bottom line I hope you succeed in your challenge. Today was inventory day. Now to update my spreadsheets.

  16. I started a challenge on January 13 where I will not purchase anything from the grocery store other than produce if I need it for the next 30 days. So on Valentine’s Day it’s over. I’m hoping to see firsthand how my pantry supports me if I can’t access groceries. I think it’s important to see what foods you gravitate to and what foods you were ambivalent about and to identify any holes in your pantry. I have Romain lettuce and spinach growing on my deck so I don’t anticipate needing much for the next 30 days. But it will be interesting to see if my pantry is the pantry I think it is.

  17. I just culled my pantry yesterday, of things that are expired 10/2022 up to and about to expire by the end of 1/2023. I put them in my working pantry to be used first. So this challenge is perfect to not waste the items "on the edge" lol. I think I will do a week of only pantry items. Thanks for this idea.

  18. Mock chicken cacciatore…small jar of Prego spaghetti sauce and a packet of taco seasoning. This works for any cut of chicken. Use a baking dish. Cover and bake at 350 until done. I sometimes add onion and green peppers to it and it's amazing sauce for rice.

  19. Kids need to be respectful of your challenge bc more than likely the day will come when they won't have a choice.

  20. This is such a timely video! We had some expensive repairs come up recently and are just starting this challenge this week! I'm excited to see how it will go and how long I can last. My goal is two weeks to start.

  21. We have decided to get to the bottom of our freezers and work on organizing our freezers and shelves. So tomorrow, we are canning a batch or two of cubed beef quarts. We canned quarts of chicken a few months ago. They turned out really good. I keep hearing about blackouts and I don't want to waste unknown amounts of money in meat. We hope to do everything in our freezers and then build them up somewhat again but not to the extent they are now.

  22. Nope, nope, nope pantry challenge just does not work for me. Very simply, if I were to start that and try to use only what I have in the house and let's say an item like chicken, beef or something like that goes on an incredible sale, or I find something that I know that I will use on a Clearance/Blowout/Giveaway price, I will buy it, as it would be foolish not to. There goes the challenge right out the window for me!

Saying that I do use the first in, first out rotation for my pantry.

  23. We have been going through and dating things that were not dated and rotating putting the older stuff to the front.
