It got colder than that down here in Bristol! I haven't checked the plot yet to see what survived!
I hope things work out ❤
Mine froze at the last frost and they were fine I have just planted them out
I think they should pick up. I hope so.
What a shame it looks like you were ahead of yourself put out too early too fast
Fingers crossed for you. The UK may have to learn about Canadian strategies like water misting, fleece, heat sinks etc.
fortunately My plot is essentially barren right now…just the rhubarb, raspberry canes and blackcurrent are up there
Out of curiosity Tony, why not wrap fleece round those beds? you have the uprights/supports there already
Apparently, as per the older gardeners up where my plot is, that we NEED the frosting for the garlic as that's what causes the bulbs to split into cloves
Ive got some really small onions sown last year tht survived the cold snap in December. So hopefully you will be fine.
Charles Dowding has a video where he put a compost bin in his greenhouse in the winter , and put his seed trays on top of it to keep them warm 👍
Yep the december cold snap finished my leeks. Slimy and soft
They "might" defrost okay Tony, I have had it happen when they are bigger than that and so more advanced roots etc, but I dont know about at that size…Steve…🙂
At -2C, many Canadian TEENS are searching for their shorts and T shirts, though NOT we oldies Lol !!!
Hi Tony, where in the north east are you mate?
i also have Samsung Galaxy SmartTag on my keys 😆
We hit -5 in Hertfordshire last night – I panicked and brought everything inside that I could carry! In the last frost I even managed to lose things I had a cool room, it makes you wonder why you bother.
This weather is a night mare ain't it, u just don't know what to do for the best do u
it's not the frost that kills plants, tony. it's too fast a thaw, rupturing plant cells……………..brian
Would fleece over them help
You should have tried covering them with fleece Tony.
Tony resist the urge to handle the plants until they thaw out. Sometimes handling the frozen ones causes more damage. You don’t know how everything is until they thaw out. But yes, someone else suggested what I was thinking, the beds with hoops or supports already around them would be so easy to drape blankets over. IMO, and here in Missouri we have plenty of experience with frost, IMO bedsheets are far better than the frost blankets that you buy from garden suppliers. Hopefully you need to deal with it anymore but just in case, I hope that helps.
I know you mention rotten potatoes last week in pots. I found the same problem, I am about 100 miles further South than you are. First time I have had that issue in 8 years of growing
It’s pretty entaining h going from this video straight to the next one in my feed, which was Fy Nyth. At Fy Nyth Ariel is shoveling a foot of snow in a skirt and a t shirt with bare arms happily reveling in the glorious sunshiny 32 degrees farenheight… and commenting on how pleased she is to have so much snow pack covering her raised beds!
