Front Yard Garden

Landscape Update – The Front Yard – 05-20-2020

Landscape Update – 05-20-2020 – In this video I go over progress that I made in the landscape this past week. It didn’t move as much as I wanted because of the rain, but I still made good progress. Thanks for watching.

  1. How would we know what kind of grass we have, i would like to do like you did to get rid of my grass. Thanks i love your chanel

  2. Did you really just throw compost on top of your grass lawn and then mulch on top of it? You mean I don't have to dig up my grass to convert lawn to garden bed? Mind. Blown.

  3. Hi Jim. Your garden is looking great, I love seeing you work hard 😁 💪🤣 I'm in the South of England, probably equivalent to a US zone 8. Since watching your last video we have bought a drone so I can see what my garden looks like looking down … still trying to master it, a lot more difficult than we thought 🤣 love your videos.

  4. Looks great! How will you keep the mulch on the property line in the front yard from spilling over into your neighbor's yard?

  5. Can't wait to see drone footage of the front yard now that you've added your flower beds. This is going to be a nice private little oasis to come home to once the new fence & patio are eventually installed & all the plants have filled in. Love how this property is transforming! Do you have plans to "flip" this house & buy another one or will this be your final destination?

  6. I see that the rain messed up your plans like it did mine lol I have 15-20 plants waiting to be planted. I may be able to do a few today before the next round of storms here in the Knoxville area lol

  7. Hope one of the gulf coast tours will be to Plants By Mail so we can see what they have this spring. It's still cool enough to order and the plants not suffer in the heat while they are transported and delivered to us. The front gardens are looking good – nice shapes and such good deep layers of compost and chipped wood. Love watching this process, and thank you for including us.

  8. So you just put mulch and compost directly on grass! So when you plant something does it come through? Don't think I have ever seen it done this way.

  9. Jim, why do plants respond so dramatically much better to rain water than other water? I water my plants with the same county water I drink. It's fairly decent water — a little hard, and of course it has chlorine. It keeps the plants from wilting. HOWEVER, it can rain just a little overnight, and the next day I swear my plants have grown an inch or more, and all the seeds start to germinate. Is it the chlorine in the county water? Seriously thinking of getting a cistern to store rain water.

  10. Jim everything looks amazing! You give us all tons of inspiration. We have a mature Koelreuteria paniculata (Golden Rain) in our front yard. It is gorgeous every season as far as I'm concerned. However, those seeds! Those seeds! I guess I just need someone to feel my pain! I truly love the tree. Before moving in I had never seen one before.

  11. I’m going that have 3 oaks removed and mulched. Did you just throw the mulch right on top of the grass? Thanks

  12. Exciting time of year, racing the clock to get plantings in the ground. Everything is looking great. Thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊

  13. Jim, great content! I noticed you placed compost and mulch straight on top of the grass. If we have a slight issue with weeds will that method stop the weeds from growing up through or should we treat the grass for weeds before we lay down compost and mulch? Thanks again!

  14. Did you just spread the Mulch all over the turf grass? Wouldn't the grass continue to grow through it and cause you problems down the road? I've always removed the sod, but if this works it would save my back alot of aches! Looks great!

  15. The time-lapse portion reminds me that gardening at times is like a good workout at the gym 👍

  16. Mr.Jim,What State/ States you will be going to on the Gulf Coast? My Wife and I live in Ms. We would really enjoy meeting you and listening to you talk. Thanks

  17. A person like you is a blessing to your neighbors as you beautify the whole neighborhood with your efforts! Now, let me get off this tablet and get outside…😊

  18. Question. Did you apply the mulch in the front yard over the grass without killing it first? If you didn't, won't grass eventually come through the mulch? Lastly, will fresh hardwood and pine mulch be a nitrogen Steele until it breaks down more?
    ….really enjoy your videos!

  19. Gardens look so great after a rain. Rejuvenates the mulch color. Really looking forward to video about collecting seed from lettuce and anything else. Did you just mulch right on top of the grass that was in the front? How thick would that have to be?

  20. OK so I just saw you put mulch right over grass is that an object message and then you’re going to plant plants there in the grass will die please tell me because I really cannot dig
    that much anymore

  21. Wow, I just spent all Saturday last weekend removing sod for a new flower bed so it is crazy that you just put top soil down and mulch directly onto your grass, interesting idea and saves so much time. Curious how many hours a week you have to spend removing grass that comes up through your mulch?

  22. Hey Jim, question about the mulch you used. Is it ok to use the remnants of a tree for mulch if the tree was dead/diseased? My (very limited) understanding was that one should dispose of the mulch/leftover clippings of anything that could pass along disease or fungus to other things. Just wondering if that is true and if so, under what circumstances is it ok and not ok to re-use mulch from a dead tree. Thanks!

  23. I am located in zone 7A in Middle Tennessee. I noticed when you started your beds in the front and yard, you did not remove the grass, but laid several inches of compost directly on the grass followed up with a thick layer of mulch. I am about to start a similar project and am concerned that if I do not remove the sod, I will have a labor intensive problem with weeds and grass in my project, can you comment on this subject? Thanks

  24. 😍😍😍
I love me hot bears with green fingers.
Too bad there is a whole ocean and a sea separating us…

You may be good with gardening, but I think you lack in aesthetics.
You definitely need either a woman's or a gay guy's contribution.

Best wishes all the way from Athens, Greece
    😘😘😘
