  1. Try different areas in you yard with the Penstemon. Some of my plants will not perform in some areas but thrive in others. Or maybe amend the soil before you plant. I have a blue suede shoes salvia. It was woody, thin and wouldnโ€™t produce flowers. I dug it up and moved it about 10 feet and it is lush and full of flowers. The soil is different in each spot.

  2. It wont work well until the ground dries out some, but if you haven't gotten a japanese hand hoe (like from gardener's workshop) theyre incredible for decimating the weeds around the seedlings, just cutting them off at soil level

  3. What tripod do you use? I keep breaking mine. It is really hard for me to find a tripod for my iPhone 13 pro max since I use a otter box to protect my camera.

  4. Janey, I enjoy your content very much. The supertunias do make a great backdrop. How long did it take you to create your new seed starting area? Did you use shelves and lights you already had?

  5. Penstemon don't like to be fertilized. They like crapy soil and not too much water. I had one that I haven't done anything since planted and is doing great now I had another one that I added compost and water more often and didn't bloom. I garden in zone 4. I hope that helps ๐Ÿ˜Š

  6. Thanks Janey. I really enjoyed this question and answer video. Hope your after the rain garden maintenance goes well.

  7. I love penstemons, but they will not grow for me! It's so frustrating! I'm in zone 9B, sunset zone 9. I have read that they do not like wet soil conditions and need well drained soil. So, I'll try again this year and maybe not give them so much love (and water) and see how they do. I've only tried the Margarita BOP…thinking about trying another variety. I love your question and answer videos. Please do more! ๐ŸŒปM

  8. Thank you for answering the โ€œbehind the scenesโ€ questions. Thatโ€™s all great to know.

  9. Man, the PW background plants look amazing! I feel bad now because I bought a flat with great plans to put them in the landscape and then left them to die over the winter. Iโ€™m a bad plant mommy. LOL. Yours make a beautiful background for the videos. Very pretty.

  10. Try Penstemon x gloxinoides โ€˜Thornโ€™ from Annieโ€™s Annuals. It a great one. Upright, floriferous and long lived. Pink flowers.
I had issues before but not now. Zone 10a Sunset zone 24 here.

  11. Thank you for answering my question. Penstemon Spectabilis is evergreen in California and has a beautiful bluegreen folliage color, it's also very drought tolerant, and the flower is gorgeous! Try it.

  12. Thanks Jamie for answering my question. I must keep trying. Stay warm and dry. Praying for yโ€™all. ๐Ÿ’•

  13. I am in zone 10 and also have trouble growing penstemon in my garden. It seems to last part of one season and then dies. It's always so pretty in the nursery and fell for it several years, then it dawned on me I really couldn't keep it alive. Kind of glad to hear it is not just me!

  14. Love it Janeyโ€ฆbut Iโ€™m still wonderingโ€ฆwhat did you do with your clothes in your closet?

  15. Thanks Janey for answering my question on the eye hooks! Can't wait to get to it (after the rain)!๐Ÿ˜ƒโ˜”๏ธ

  16. Hi Janey, I am in California high desert zone 8b and just wanted to tell you that my supertunia bubblegum in an 18โ€ pot kept coming back & this will be its 3rd year now. I have also propagated it successfully. I had gotta a jazberry towards the end in November last year and it is wintering over out in the garden just fine. I do think that weโ€™re having a very mild winter. Good luck!!!!

  17. I just want to complement you on your presentation. Attitude takes a speaker a long way in getting subscribers. I find you to be positive, upbeat, "smiley" and knowledgeable. Thanks!
