🍠 It is about time for me to begin sprouting sweet potatoes for slips 👌 Ask ‘all the things’ and comment down below 🤗 – let’s talk 🌱 ❤️
💚 Below are a few helpful points on growing sweet potatoes👌
✅ Sweet potatoes are very versatile and fun to grow, and as they are eadible you can grow them both for slips and for eating the leaves in you salad.
✅ There are more than one way to sprout sweet potatoes. You can sprout in soil or water (check out my guide on sweet potatoes for more on the water sprouting approach 👍
✅ Mid February they have already grown long shoots that you can cut of and sprout in water for slips
✅ If you leave them growing longer in the soil, they will eventually grow roots from the vines themselves which i find the easiest approach, as it cuts out the entire water sprouting proces
✅ If you see the leaves turn less shiny look out for spider mites- misting the leaves regularly can prevent spider mite attacks on your indoor transplants all together 👍
✅ If you do not have anywhere to source seed potatoes you can grow slips from any organic sweet potato from the super market. Do not attempt to grow conventional as they are likely to have been sprayed with a sprouting inhibitor 🥴
✅ Sweet potatoes like growing in a very hot environment – up here in the north I grow mine in the tunnel greenhouse and wait until the soil temperature is over 12 – 16 degrees before planting them out 👍
✅ Harvest when the leaves has died back or before the first frost, which ever comes first 👍
