EASY Garden Design Hack // Linda Vater 🌼

This is one of the more fun small garden projects I did this summer. In cleaning out our garage, I found these bamboo torches stuck in a cobwebby corner. My first inclination was to take them to Goodwill. But then I realized I could transform them with a coat of mossy green spray paint. I loved the effect so much I did two to frame the entrance to the potager. I also like the simple touch of verticality they give in front of the posts. I’m going to do two more for the potager border. You can find these torches just about anywhere. I got my new ones at Walmart for $2.88! You can also get the oil there for about eight dollars a bottle. There are expensive metal, very classy, good looking versions of these out there, but these humble bamboo torches work just fine for me! Spray paint can work miracles! If you are still considering subscribing to LVTV, I’ll put a link below😉. Stay tune for a short rundown of what will be coming up on LVTV next month. Stay safe everyone!

  1. Thanks, Linda👍I spray painted my torches just yesterday( same color, moss green) Love it! Awesome idea, ready to enjoy&be protected 😊.

  2. Good afternoon. My mosquito hack is lavender essential oil. Mosquitos absolutely hate the smell of lavender. I will spray lavender fragrance on a fence or object next to where I'm working and the mosquitos stay away. My cousin dabs lavendar oil on her skin and that works too.

  3. I use the bottom half of a bird bath as a plant stand. The top basin broke when it had a little water in it and froze a few years ago and for some reason I just couldn’t make myself get rid of the stand. This year I put a shallow concrete colored pot with purple Veronica, white balloon flowers and trailing Dichondra in it and it looks like it was meant to be. I may even use your hack of splattering some paint on the pot to age it. You have such impeccable taste. 🌻

  4. I really like the color you have sprayed the torches. If there is a hole in the bottom of the torch pole you can place a metal bar in the ground. Than slip the torch over the bar. I have done this to things I can't keep straight.

  5. You mentioned a soil from Lowe’s that you use as a mulch. What is the name of the product?

  6. Do you use the hose guards in your garden? To protect your plants from getting damaged by pulling the hose around?

  7. i'm intriqued by the red bricks i see around the border of the bed at the beginning. have you or can you do a video on bed borders and the different ones throughout your property?
luvv luvv luvvvv your garden style!

  8. Hi Linda, I found the mosquito zapper at Inspire and Uplift only bought one (pricey) but rechargeable , I pray it works!!!!

  9. I fill pots with pea gravel and place the tiki torch canisters in the middle of them. Fill them with the repellent liquid and place them throughout my seating areas. Lovely and effective!

  10. I use Mosquito Eradicators in my garden….one on each end. You fill it with warm water. Lasts a few months. They seem to be working great….and we are normally eaten alive by mosquitoes here in Texas!

  11. Amber beer bottles work great as torches. Just fill with citronella, submerge the wick, and you can sit them in so many places both high and low

  12. Usually love enjoy watching your videos but today I did not sadly I could not hear a word you said hopefully next time

  13. Not sure if this is a garden hack but it did safe me from buying new garden snips. My snips had gotten all gummy and wiping them done didn’t seem to help. So last night I popped them in the dishwasher and they are as good as new 😊

  14. A few years ago I bought a small lemon balm plant for my deck,it worked well. Anyhow I thought it was dead after the season,so I just threw it in the wetlands behind my house. It has spread to form a beautiful, fragrant border and I have very little to no mosquitos!

  15. Zappers are indiscriminate! They zap god bugs as well as bad. Not going to put anything like that in my garden. They are one of bees' biggest threat. Think about it please!😧

  16. I've never had a torch – do you dip the wick in the citronella? or is there a receptacle inside that you fill with it? thanks

  17. Oh no, I couldn't hear the audio. But, stuck with it anyway because the video does explain things 😉 Thanks though, Linda, love the channel!

  18. I use "over the door" cheap mirrors in my garden and front porch. I just bought 3 at Aldi's for $12 each! Makes a larger appearance and can add light to darker places.

  19. 너무 아름다운정원입니다 주인의 손길이 곳곳에 묻어 완벽한 조화를 보이고있네요~~

  21. Lovely garden as always 😊 I love to used lavender essential oil or Naturalive it contain Citronella, Rosemary & Lemongrass Oil to keep those pest away mosquitoes 🦟 fly away when ever I use it……hope it helps great video 👍🏾

  23. Love watching your videos, but have trouble hearing many of them! Thanks for anything you can do to remedy that!

  24. We use 2 electric bug zappers, place about 20 feet from our gathering area on either side of the garden under protection. We zap all night while sleeping, then enjoy our yard and garden Durning the day and evening. Yes we unplug durning the day, it works.

  25. Linda, in a previous video you mentioned that you had an overhead view of you boxwood heart hedge. Could you please show us the overhead view of the hedge? I am thinking about putting in square boxwood hedge but still have questions. Can you tell me how you enter the inside of the hedge area, to trim or plant the empty space. Sorry for the question but I can't find the answers after searching the internet. Thank you
