Today, Julie from Edible Routes introduces us to the lablab or hyacinth beans (Lablab purpureus). Julie calls them “broad beans”, but it is a very different species from what we call broad beans in Europe (Vicia faba). In India, Lablab takes 3 months to grow from seed to harvest. It is planted in September and it starts flowering in October and fruiting in mid-November. For Julie, these beans are really tasty and nutritious.
