The Hyacinth Beans – Edible Routes 🇮🇳 #2 | Global Bean Show gardens

Today, Julie from Edible Routes introduces us to the lablab or hyacinth beans (Lablab purpureus). Julie calls them “broad beans”, but it is a very different species from what we call broad beans in Europe (Vicia faba). In India, Lablab takes 3 months to grow from seed to harvest. It is planted in September and it starts flowering in October and fruiting in mid-November. For Julie, these beans are really tasty and nutritious. Join our public conference on growing tropical legume species to learn how to grow lablab in Europe!

In the Global Bean Show garden, our indian partners are growing cowpeas, yardlong beans, pigeon peas, broad beans, french beans, sweet peas, and purple beans.

Edible Routes is one of India’s largest organic farming organisations. At Edible Routes through services where we design home kitchen gardens, farm management, restoration of degraded land, water harvesting, workshops, helping people grow organic food in miniature Farmlets and by providing natural and organic gardening products, we are moving towards creating a world of conscious and healthy people who care for themselves and the earth.
