Black Turmeric Harvesting Tasting Rare Herb Growing Organic in Container Garden EASY to Grow Rhizome



Harvest Black Turmeric, curcuma caesia; known as Kali haldi in India, is a rare type of herb, harder to find but here I give tips on how easy it is to grow. Learning as we go, the rhizomes grow with bulbous growth most likely they function as food storage organs during dormancy in cold winter months. Ours may take years to get a large crop but we started with a small piece. Mine grew on a table top, in a flower pot, with simple woodchips and potting soil, in a morning sun area, so to get burned or dried out by the Summer hot afternoon sun. Here you will see how 2 tiny pieces of black turmeric multiplied in size in less than 2 years. Interesting Taste.

    Does it taste like a spicy radish? I love the spicy radish for my coleslaw, chipped very small & chunks in my salads.

    Those balls hanging down at the ends are like a root cellar for the
    turmeric. Next time don't wait until the plant has completely died back
    otherwise it'll go into hibernation mode. In hibernation mode the plant
    will divert energy away from the tubers and into those little balls to
    store food (like a root cellar) in order to feed itself over the winter.
    If you harvest your turmeric before it completely dies back you may get some turmeric . It's kind of a trial and error process to find that harvest day. The little balls will not grow more turmeric . Turmeric need lots of nutrition to grow those edible tubs so find yourself video how to grow then.     Black is least productive turmeric. Supposedly highest in medicinals. The white grows a nice rhizome structure and decent amount. In search of green now.
