Hey ya’ll, I’m Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm

Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you’ll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.

There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you’re here.

  1. Well I’m thinking I’m going to have to have a go at the pink Berkeley, since I live on the east coast of Australia in a little place called Berkeley! Lol time for tomatoes is almost done here so it might be a next season thing , and space in my suburban yard is very limited, anyway, happy gardening everyone, stay blessed,
    All the best Jules 😘

  2. I understand the fan girl thing. I met Joel Salatin and asked him to sign my copy of his book. He pulled up a chair for me and my husband and I sat there and talked with him for almost an hour, others joined us but I was in heaven. My husband still tease me about my fan girl reaction 😂.

  3. Did Jess and Miah put the landscape fabric under their raised beds or is it only in the pathways?

  4. I purchased the mini marzano last week. I'm so excited to get them and try them! WBF has their own section in my seed storage ❤️ (that's saying something)

  5. I’ve grown so many of these and I didn’t realize they were all developed by the same person! I’m trying Barry’s crazy cherry for the first time this year, and I can’t wait to try it after all the great things I’ve heard about it.

  6. As I sit here knowing that this year we might sell our home and move to a what we hope bigger property to grow more, I still want to purchase these seeds and grow a few this year not knowing if I will get to reap anything and to have some seeds for next year too

  7. You start seedlings I start winter sowing! We each have a way to get our hands in the dirt when it is still "too early" . Love it! 💛💚💙💜😎

  8. Sweet Jess, I'm getting the office/spare bedroom ready to start seeds under the grow lights, and heat pads….I'm biting at the bit to start planting seeds. Life is good!

  9. Sooooo excited I caught this in time to order early. I've never grown tomatoes from seed but will be attempting soon!! This will be my second season with 4 vego beds, a few in ground beds, a green stalk & randomn pots. My husband said I think all 4 vegos should be all tomatoes. In my next breath I replied, "OK!!" an I jumped from the couch to the computer & was online before he realized what was happening. 8) I LOVE homegrown TOMATOES!! Thanks for sharing & dreaming of a tomato sammies with you.

  10. i use beach umbrellas to shade my tomatoes during our hot los angeles summers. they are easy to takedown on cooler days. i love the idea to plant sunflowers

  11. How come I never see a link to any of these references? Just comments. 😕

  12. I'm actually half way through the audible for Animal Vegetable miracle right now. It's great so far! Sometimes it seems you know everything!

  13. I’m pretty sure I’m going to have the most tomatoes in my whole county haha! I’ve got so many seeds already and just added this to the bushel. THANK YOU for putting this together for us and thanks to Brad for his passion and expertise! We love you, Jess! ❤

  14. Hey Jess! Is there any way you could do a video, blog post, or just point me in the right direction on the changes you made to get your eczema under control. Ive had it my entire life. And last August the doctor put me on a shot I take every two weeks. For the first few months my skin was pretty much clear for the first time in my life. But recently it seems like the shots aren't working anymore and I'm getting hives from the shots now. I want to start looking into a natural way to treat it. I cant take it anymore. Lol.

  15. One of my favorite authors. Tucson will always have a fondness for Kingsolver. ❤️ I am glad she has touched your heart as well.

  16. I was also wooed, taught and marked by Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. Kingsolver was already my favorite author for her novels, and AVM absolutely rocked my world. It became my guide for how I wanted to live my life. And profoundly changed my world view. And like @Jessica Sowards, I re-read it every couple years.
