This video lists many of the vegetables that are recommended for planting in February in each of the 3 regions of Florida. Note that North Florida is considered the region north of State Rd. 40, South Florida is south of State Rd. 70, and Central Florida is the region in between.

Here are links for many of the products I use in my vegetable garden.

Sustane Organic Fertilizer (4-6-4) 20 lb Bag: https://amzn.to/3lztPHJ
or
Jobe’s Organic Fertilizer (4-4-4): https://amzn.to/3EdxeV2
or
Espoma Organic Fertilizer (3-4-4): https://amzn.to/3EbvJ9P

For Berries: Espoma Berry-tone Organic Fertilizer (4-3-4): https://amzn.to/3jlD8dA

In addition to the above fertilizers I occasionally use these seaweed and fish fertilizers to give my plants a boost of nutrients. I also use some of the seaweed fertilizer (half-strength) on my seedlings right after I transplant them (Note: I don’t use fertilizers with fish in them for seedlings):
Maxicrop Seaweed Fertilizer (Powder): https://amzn.to/3uWO9ak
Maxicrop Seaweed Fertilizer (Liquid): https://amzn.to/37uA0JJ
Neptune’s Harvest Tomato & Veg Fertilizer 2-4-2 (Note: this formula is best for first few weeks of plant growth, as it encourages lots of green leafy growth. For fruiting/flowering plants, I switch to the Rose & Flowering formula after the first few weeks. Also, this contains fish and the smell attracts animals, which will dig up the plants trying to find the source of the fish smell, so I use it early in day and water it in just before dark to minimize the smell). https://amzn.to/3r8OJ40
Neptune’s Harvest Rose & Flowering Formula 2-6-4 (Note: This formula also contains fish so everything I said above about attracting animals applies to this formula too). https://amzn.to/3KqBino

  1. Thank you for this. I will be moving to Florida in March. I'll be only doing flowers this year mainly sunflowers and marigold until I get the hang of my zone, coming from a cold climate.

  2. zone9B here. sowed some swiss chard, thinned purple pak choy, sowed some carrots (maybe too late, but i will try), direct sowed butternut two weeks ago & it is up, kabocha came up on it's own in the chicken run and i will sow more flowers this weekend. potatoes (red) are up- need to mound up with a mix of soil/straw or pine shavings. Spring brings lots of projects. Happy to be back outside watching things grow.

  3. Thanks so much for this gardening information for Florida!
God Bless all our gardens!!! 🫑🥬🧅🥒🥕

  4. I don't think PlantMaps dates are correct. At least not for most of the panhandle. I'm in Santa Rosa Beach between Destin and Panama City. Sources vary on my last frost date, from mid-February to mid-March, but I've never seen a source as late as April. PlantMaps shows April 1st to 10th. If I waited until mid April to plant my warm weather crops I'd never get a harvest before the summer heat set in. I usually plant around March 1st. if a cold front is headed our way i may wait until mid-March, but never into April.

  5. This is really helpful 😊 I'm in S Florida and it's difficult to know what and when to plant sometimes.

  6. I'm glad I found this video. I was debating whether or not to start some peppers and tomatillo seeds. I live in South Florida, the research I did indicates that those need to be planted in the fall.

  7. Thank u for the wonderful information!!! I am in central FL and wanting to start. What soil is best?

  8. That's a lot of information. Thank you so much. I'm going to try to start planting some this year. I've never done it so I hope I have some success. I have really black soil so I hope something grows.

  9. Wanted to say thank you for your efforts in putting out great info for Florida Gardeners. I'm 33 and I've been coming down here since I was 2 and decided to move here 7 years ago from Michigan. It has been like learning a new language. I have since followed your soil recipe, decided to plant things by your seasonal guidance and am hoping for some great yields over the coming months. You are very much appreciated, keep going!
