Japanese Garden Plants – Why Your Garden Needs Cryptomeria Japonica

If you’re wondering what Japanese garden plants to grow in your garden, you can’t go wrong with one of my favourite trees.

It’s called “Sugi” in Japan (or Cryptomeria Japonica).

It covers 25% of the Japanese landscape. It’s one of the fastest growing trees I know. Plus its timber is some of the most highly-prized in Japan. And yet…

Few Western gardeners plant it in their Japanese gardens or harness it as a raw material.

I want to change all that by telling you all about the fantastic Cryptomeria Japonica including:

– Why Japanese gardeners revere the Sugi tree. This tree is so respected, you’ll see at many of Japan’s most celebrated temples.

– What is Daisugi? Japanese builders pay top dollar to get their hands on daisugi logs. I’ll tell you why.

– How to care for your Sugi and what to do if its needles turn brown. (Hint: brown Sugis are not dead. What brown needles mean might surprise you).
