My poor Heart Fern (Hemionitis arifolia) – #plantfailfriday – I just couldn’t keep up with the rapid water usage and the requirement of evenly moist soil. Eventually, the leaves remained in their curled state, unwiling to rehydrate. Discouraged, I left the plant for dead – it sat in a corner for MONTHS as I was planning to discard it come spring time. However, just yesterday, I noticed a living leaf! Sure enough, at the soil level, I found several new leaves emerging among the crispy dead stems. Perhaps this fern is hardier than I first thought! After clearing away the dead stems, I’m now eagerly awaiting whatever new stems this fern has in store! I don’t expect it to grow in as densely as from the nursery but I think this will be a fern with character!
