Can you do a time lapse of planting the tree? That way you can still record it if you want and not worry about the sound?
Garden work is a constant change of plans it seems, the good thing about it is that the recovery plans will boost your creativity and learning processes a lot. In the long run a perfect outcome everytime would be more boring. Still it is sad to lose a tree or have a plan that fails.
