Sow Seeds With Me – Tomatoes, Basil & Cosmos

Can you feel it? Spring is here and seed sowing season is about to get pretty hectic. Let’s start things off with a gentle vlog and join me as I take cover from the wind inside the poly tunnel to sow my tomatoes, basil, cosmos flowers and scabious. I also pot up my Cobae scandens (the cup and saucer vine) as it’s wanting to climb.

  1. I’m going to try lemon basil and lime basil and genovese. I’ve tried the purple and, like you say, the colour is more impressive than the taste. Also going to try a non basil called holy basil or tulsi. I dream of disappearing snow…. ❤️🇨🇦👍🍅🍅. Just teasing but I’m glad you reached 100 k before you admitted to not liking tomatoes! 😂😂😂. Personally I build the garden around tomatoes almost. Yellow cherry tomatoes—still have a ton in my freezer. Not my fave. I use them for cooking. Love chilies too.

  2. Good info. I've tried drying basil and it was kind of gross. I didn't think of trying a different variety. Also your new hellebore is gorgeous

  3. PS. I’m so glad to see your happiness and excitement about getting married. We’re going on 36 years here, and while every marriage has ups and downs, a good marriage is so rewarding. All the best for a long and happy union. Sorry about the non gardening comment but you just glow and I couldn’t help saying something. 🇨🇦🇨🇦❤️👍👍👩‍🌾🥦

  4. Your days are getting longer and about to get warmer and it makes me happy. But mine are getting shorter and the evenings colder and I am sad sad sad! Am harvesting eggplants, chillies, beans, pumpkin and the zucchinis are on their last hurrah. The winter veg will go in soon enough which where I live means Asian veg and cabbages and some herbs. All good, but am looking forward to gardening vicariously through the northern hemisphere spring and summer. Your summers are always so much milder than mine. It's fascinating.

  5. Great video again Katrina. I’m so glad you gave Zoe a shout at Zoe Woodward gardening. I’ve been buying my seeds and corms from her for a couple of years now and she is by far the best for cut flowers. I’m quite a novice gardener but I’ve learnt so much from her and her grow along videos and fact sheets are invaluable both for timing and preparation. I can’t wait to see your all your wedding flowers.

  6. Great video thank you 😊 a couple of questions, where did you get your thermometer from for your greenhouse? And what did you use to patch your greenhouse? Looking forward to watching how you get on with growing your own wedding flowers this year something I'd love to do too 💐

  7. I didn't know Wilkos sold Sun Baby tomato seeds. I have to tell you that Sun Baby are an heirloom/heritage variety. I have been saving the seeds for about 5 years now to sow the following year and they are always true to type. They are a good substitute for Sungold but not quite as sweet. Gongrats on reaching 100k.

  8. Congratulations Katrina..Great seeing you in your garden and thinking I should start doing my seeds. You folks are further ahead weather wise then Canadian still under snow cover. Thank you for sharing and the best of luck with your seedlings. 👍❤️😊

  9. My favorite i grow every year is Golden Königin and i rotated allkind of weird ones in every year last year had fuzzy tomatoes with no name just description, black ones green ones etc. Same with chills but this year im guting down on hot ones i had way to many last year so im planting eggplants more and some sweet paprikas.

  10. I've only started gardening last June, just found your channel and I'll be looking forward to seeing more 😁🙏

  11. You and garden answer got me hooked on hellebores! I picked up a golden lotus a couple of years ago, and it just flowered this winter, also picked up a havington double purple yesterday 😍Have a big mix of pinks, purples and whites and a mass of seedlings. Absolutely love them!

  12. Congrats on 100,000 subscribers! I also like to grow cherry tomatoes over the larger beefsteak style. I think they are superior in both flavor and texture, personally. I'm planting about 50 this year, and am hoping to both preserve them as sauce, ketchup and sun dried tomatoes, as well as gorging myself on them fresh and roasted all summer long 🙂

  13. Great video as ever, thanks. Maskotka Bush tomato plants are reliable. Worth a try if anyone doesn't want to pinch out or support tom plants. Never had blight problems either.
Looking forward to seeing how your season goes. 😀

  14. I'm also trying RocketGro this season! I have stage 1 and 2. No results to speak of yet. How have you found it? Would love to hear how things get on in the seed sown mix!

My cobea leaves are turning purple… they're in my unheated greenhouse but might be a bit too cold out there for them!

  15. I have been watching you a few years. I find it amazing what you have done with your Lot. Yes spring is here and I can hardly wait to get in the dirt. The best and God Bless.

  16. Congratulations on your 100k subs. I've always liked your videos they are so professional, and you speak so well, meaning your descriptions of everything, you could have your own #UkTV show for sure. Big love from #Ely #EastAnglia 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿💐

  17. Congratulations on 100k. So deserved! I can see you walking towards your groom with a very beautifully decorated wheelbarrow with a huge smile on your face saying I got all the flowers I wanted

  18. Thank you for the basil reminder! I keep forgetting to pick some up 🌿 I’m looking forward to having another go at sowing all of the fancy tomato varieties I got in a swap last year, I didn’t get very many fruits at all with the weather but cherries were always a failsafe – so good choice for a low maintenance grow this season! 😄👏🍅

  19. San marzano tomatoes! I don't eat a great deal of raw tomatoes either. But they're absolutely fantastic for sauces. Grew 5 plants last year and had at least 2kg from each plant.

    Congrats on the 100k!

  20. Congrats from the US. Your joy of growing things, especially how you gush over pretty flowers, is contagious.

  21. If you want to imagine 100,000 people just think of a large stadium, like Twickenham or Wembley, completely sold out. With the entire pitch crowded with people. And the streets outside crammed with people.

  22. Hi Katrina, lovely videos. I love your channel. Just a random question, where did you get your pollytunnel from? Many thanks Graham
